The Bachelor’s Guide To Las Vegas Vacations… After Dark

Congrats, you’re getting married! But first thing’s first, your bachelor party. Las Vegas vacations are by far the #1 way to celebrate that last hurrah with the guys. You may say you’re innocent now, but Sin City can easily convert you … at least for one night.

If you’re planning a bachelor party trip to Las Vegas, do yourself a favour and stay at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino. This hotel offers the widest variety of venues within a hand’s reach, so you can easily visit three or four places in one night. Here are our top 5 “bachelor” things to do in Vegas:

Sin City Comedy

Wet your appetite with a trip to the Sin City Comedy, located right at Planet Hollywood. It’s a stand-up comedy show mixed with burlesque brought to you by the creative ladies of Sin City Dollz. A rotating cast of America’s top comedians, like John Bizarre and Butch Bradley, will keep you in stitches with gut-busting laughter. Sin City Comedy runs daily at 9:00.

Marc Savard Comedy Hypnosis

Keep the laughs going with a visit to the Marc Savard Comedy Hypnosis show, which runs almost every night at V Theater, also conveniently located at Planet Hollywood. Savard uses his incredible abilities to hypnotize volunteers and use them in his show in the most unexpected (and always entertaining) ways.

The Luxor

Surely if you’re planning a Las Vegas vacation (especially if you’re going with the boys), you’ve also heard of the “Strip’s biggest tease” – Fantasy ladies at the Luxor hotel offer one of the hottest shows available in the Sin City. Located just a few blocks from Planet Hollywood, Fantasy runs nightly at 10:30.

Gallery Nightclub

Any respectable bachelor vacationing in Vegas should visit a night club. There are many excellent night clubs along the Vegas Strip, but you need only look to the heart of Planet Hollywood again, where you’ll find sexy go-go dancers at the Gallery Nightclub. Golden chandeliers and glamorous wall prints create a luxurious atmosphere, inviting you to the real nightlife experience that waits on the massive dance floor. Be sure to check out the Pussycat Dolls Burlesque Saloon, a must-see part of the Gallery Nightclub for every bachelor.

Pleasure Pit

Had enough of eye candy for one night? Head on back to the hotel and check out the Pleasure Pit casino, also located at Planet Hollywood. Here you’ll enjoy sassy, smiling dealers in elegant lingerie inviting you to ante up. Kick back, have a cocktail, and let your mind play back the Las Vegas vacations memories you’ve just created.

And yes, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas – we won’t tell! But if you’re willing, we’d love to hear about your favourite hotspots in Vegas. Leave us a comment below. Ladies, we want to hear from you, too!

Naked Body Scanners Be Gone. Airports Introduce New Stick Figure Sketches

Naked Body Scanners

The existing full-body scans have come under fire as being too revealing. (Canadian Air Transport Security Authority)

Good news for modest travellers today as airport full-body scanners will soon make the switch from outlining the full monty to sketching stick figures, according to Minister of State for Transport Steven Fletcher.

In an effort to calm the fears of travellers–many of which had made complaints about the body scanners, likening the experience to posing nude for the camera–the federal government will install new software for the scanners, which will now produce computer-generated images of stick figures rather than realistic three-dimensional outlines of passengers’ physical attributes.

…or lack thereof.

According to Fletcher, the Harper government is deploying Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) software on the existing scanners at major airports across the country. “This new software will ensure the continued safety and security of Canadians passengers, while respecting their privacy,” he said in a statement.

Is it just me or does anyone else think this statement suggests that until now they weren’t respecting our privacy?

Transport Canada said the scans continue to be effective in identifying anomalies on a passenger, including metals and non-metals of all shapes and sizes, as well as liquids and explosives. The department also stressed that the scanners will not collect any personal information from the passenger, nor will the images or names of passengers be matched up in any way.

Really, would you be disturbed if someone attached your name to your stick figure sketch? Can’t say I would.

New Airport Body Scanner

“Our Government is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all passengers travelling through Canadian airports,” said Fletcher. “The ATR technology is in line with international standards for security screening,” he said, also noting the Netherlands also use the technology.

Earlier this year, the U.S. Transportation Security Administration announced its body scanners are set to be removed from airports by the summertime because Rapiscan, the company that makes them, can’t(or won’t?) resolve privacy concerns. U.S. Congress had ordered that the scanners produce a less invasive image or be removed by June. Rapiscan acknowledged it would not be able to meet the deadline.

There are 52 full-body scanners at 18 airports across Canada. When will the new stick-man software be installed? Who can say…

What are your thoughts on the naked-no-more stick-figure body scanners?

3 Travel Reviews: Los Cabos, Holguin & Cayo Santa Maria

Lands End

Hi Wendy,

Thanks for the follow up.  I wanted to send you a quick note to say how fantastic our trip to Los Cabos was. I would highly recommend the Riu Palace. The rooms are very clean and the view was amazing.

The a la carts are very hard to book as they only would book two days in advance. What we found was that even if you did not have a reservation and you went a little later in the evening,  you just had to wait one Mexican minute and they would eventually seat you.

The wine is not the best but Walmart was a quick taxi ride away if you wanted something a little more upscale.  The buffet was unbelievable. If you could not find something on there that you liked then there was something wrong.

We went whale watching, parasailing, and went to Lovers Beach and Divorce Beach all amazing. We wanted to do the dune buggy tropical tour but ran out of time.  The only down side to the whole vacation was having to come home.  We will return in a heart beat.

Playa Costa Verde

Hi Gina,

I just wanted to say thanks for your help.  On January 17th I entered your mall location in Hamilton.  I asked you to find a vacation package for my friend and I.  There was a catch.  We were wanting to leave within a few hours.  You found us a trip out of Toronto that left in just under three hours.  We made the trip to Pearson at speeds I won’t mention.  Turned in the rental car and hopped on a plane with so very little time to spare.

When we arrived in Holguin, nobody knew we were coming.  Cubans, being such an accommodating bunch, made it work.  We had a great time in Playa Costa Verde.  The resort is a little run down compared to other countries, but one of the nicest I’ve stayed at in Cuba.  The people were great.

Thanks to you, I had the opportunity to meet a wonderful tour guide.  We are communicating almost daily and are planning to see each other again.  Meeting this wonderful Cuban woman would not have happened without you.  So I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

So thanks again and if I can use your services again, I most certainly will.

~~Paul

Playa Cayo Santa MariaHi Spencer,

As promised, I said I would give you an update on our recent trip to Hotel Playa Cayo Santa Maria.  This trip has totally restored our faith in Cuba and we are looking forward to possibly returning in July.  From the cleanliness of the rooms, pools and resort to the friendliness of staff we were really impressed.

There were no “giant lineups” everywhere as stated in many of the reviews on Tripadvisor.  The Transat rep at the hotel said that the hotel was fully booked so I’m not sure what
other people were experiencing.  Perhaps it was the time of day they were utilizing the buffet as we were always there around 8am and there were no problems.

I must admit that the buffet could be a little more organized and the layout isn’t the
best but I certainly wouldn’t let it ruin my trip.  We haven’t been to a 5* in Cuba so we don’t have anything to compare it to but I would say for Cuba standards the HPCSM is right up there.  There are many other 5* resorts in other parts of the Caribbean that don’t have fresh squeezed orange juice for you every morning.

Anyway, we had a great time away and the weather was absolutely beautiful.  Thanks for answering all of my questions prior to our trip and I will keep an eye on pricing for the beginning of July and hopefully have the opportunity to book with you again!

Take care,

~ Lisa
