Although the hotel is a little older it is well maintained.The restaurants are very good and no lineups! what a relief.The food is above avg and the drinks are premium,The Hotel is secure as you need to go thru 2 gates to get there.No vendors on the beach also a plus.A little seaweed on the beach but they have it removed daily.Shows are fantastic Freddie Mercury and Pure Energy being the best.The staff are quite attentive and friendly im definitely going back.

Grounds were beautiful, food was amazing, staff were exceptional. Only wish the swim outs and the hot tubs near the swim outs were a bit warmer so we could have enjoyed our swim out more. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Easy check in and check out. Hotel was very accommodating to our requests

Great Resort. Never had to wait in line for dinner. Lots of choices and food was good. Breakfast buffet was not as hot as it should be but everything else was great. No issues getting chairs by the pool or beach ever. No need to run down early and save a spot. Staff were always friendly. Room was beautiful. Will definitely be back.

The entire experience was almost perfect…spoiled only by a bit of rain. Thought the pools could have been a bit warmer. All dining experiences virtually perfect, and room fully met every expectation. Never a service disappointment. Ocean georgeous, and sandy beach went for miles - no seaweed ever washed up on shore. Going back soon!

This hotel had everything. From great food , service and entertainment. Would definitely go back. Cannot really say anything bad about this resort. A must try. The grounds were kept impeccable. The beach is clean . Loved it

This January 2024 marks our 7th visit to this resort in the past 12 months. The resort is awesome and always being maintained. I cannot say enough about the staff and supervision. They are what make the visit the best! We look forward to our last visit in February/March until we return in November.

We stayed in the Club Section which was close to the pools and the ocean. The room was great-we chose the Ocean View Junior Suite. Concierge service was always available if we needed anything Mini bar was always stocked and we could ask for our preferences. Hendriks at the Club Pool was amazing. Good pool service for drinks. High-quality alcohol at all bars. Crown Royal, was requested for our room and we got it. The wonderful staff is happy to help and not soliciting tips but we were generous with them. Fantastic New Year's Eve Celebration and meal. Paella at the pool was great! Musical Entertainment from 6 to 9 every evening was pleasant. Some of the shows were not high quality except for the magic show and the circus show. Michael Jackson's show never happened for the 2 weeks we were there although it was announced each week. Texas Hold 'em every day was fun. Great variety of restaurants Chez Isabel was my favourite but the service seemed rushed and not as elegant as I would have assumed for a French restaurant. Lots of activities, if you want them Comfortable beds at the pool and the beach and lots of them available Ocean a bit rough and not for everyone. We will return- this was our first trip to this hotel

Loved the suite! Awesome food and amazing staff. Just be aware if you are a smoker it can be an issue in Mexico ...maybe quit before you go. Support from Trip Central and communication was awesome....no complaints and only good things to say.

Although this was our first visit to the Playa Mujeres location, we have stayed at the Mayan Riviera location before. The Excellence resorts, no matter the location, are all winners. The Playa Mujeres location is about a 40 minute car ride from the airport and you get to see some of Cancun. It's about 30 minutes by car to the Riviera location. Like all Excellence resorts, the grounds are meticulously maintained every day. The beach is better at Playa Mujeres if that's a priority for you. The rooms are well appointed and those with an ocean view are worth the extra money if that's a priority for you. The 'Excellence Club' upgrade is a good option if your wallet allows. The food at the various eating locations provides a mix that will meet the expectations of most people. What has impressed us the most is the friendly demeanour of all the staff. We have enjoyed all our visits to both the Cancun area Excellence resorts and would not hesitate to return or recommend to others. The popularity of this resort suggests that you need to book early to ensure availability. A first visit is likely to lead to another. :)

Stunning beach, lovely super clean facilities and staff were outstanding !! Great selection of food and beverages with no difficulty accessing the a la carte restaurants. Would recommend to friends and family.

The resort is beautiful! There are so many activities to keep you busy throughout the day and the entertainment at night couldn't be better. The rooms are clean, cool, and comfortable. The staff are very friendly. We paid for the Excellence Club and it was worth it. the restaurant, Magna, is phenomenal! We booked an ocean view room which we got but what we didn't know was that these rooms also overlook the private pool which got busy and noisy. I asked for another room and was told that there was a room that overlooked the garden with a partial oceanview . This room was perfect!

This was our second trip there. Last time was April 2018. The largest difference I found since COVID is no assigned concierge attendant for each Excellence level building. Other than that the entertainment, food and service was wonderful. A special shout out to our beech waitress Carmen who looked after us so well 5 years ago and again this trip.. she remembers what you drank 3 days ago.. she offers exceptional service while on the beech!

We have just returned from our 7th visit to this resort, in fact our 3rd trip since January 2023. This resort is Awsome! All staff are unbelievably friendly and helpful. Supervisors are very visible and are very anxious to learn how your day is going, in hopes to make it the best possible. I highly recommend this resort. It is as it was pre-covid.

The beach was pristine and large in size; the ocean water clear and blue. However the waves were very rough and the red flag up almost everyday. Still so beautiful to sit and enjoy. The pools were clean and it was lovely to have the exclusive Club pools near our rooms. The Junior Suite Club level was very comfortable, modern and ultra clean. The walk in shower was large and very welcoming after a day on the beach. Restaurants were good - Mexican restaurant was fun and the buffet - The Kitchen was a favourite for breakfast. Our only complaint was the "no reservation" policy. Wanting a 7 or 8 pm dinner time resulted in a 60-80-minute line up. No wait at 6 pm but that's a bit early on vacation. The staff, while more reserved than on other Caribbean islands were welcoming and friendly and smiling.

Beautiful resort, very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent food and plenty of restaurants to choose from. Rooms were clean and well maintained with a fully stocked bar and fridge. Shuttles to and from the airport were well organized and comfortable.

Welcoming and very attentive staff, attention to detail, great entertainment. No wristbands, no reservations for any of the restaurants, premium drinks, beautifully kept grounds - a gem. Downsides: Heavy & dangerous surf on the beach most days. Also, you are a long way from any town or other resorts - approx. 1 hr. from the airport. A great place to relax & chill.

My wife and family have been to a number of resorts in the DominicanRepublic. Although we try not to get our expectations too high I must say that my wife and I, as well as our two adult daughters had a very nice time at this resort. We were pleasantly surprised by all the offerings of this resort. So much so that we have only positive things to say and as a result would highly recommend this resort. Be sure and visit the parrots, they are a hoot! I am a bit sad though that we aren’t able to return to share the experience with our grandchildren, as it is an adults only resort.

We had a very lovely time at riviera excellence. Other than a not such great internet connection I can’t think of any problems. Fabulous food !! Wonderful service. And we lucked out with the weather. It didn’t rain til we left!! One word: spectacular

Resort was Beautiful and well maintained. Majority of the Staff were Amazing! Few Staff Members felt the need to argue, disagree and down right ignore you. Food at the Mexican and Indian Restaurants were Amazing. Others Restaurants just ok, some just horrible. Main Pools were freezing. Excellence Pool was luckily heated. Beach and Ocean had a lot of Seaweed. Videos of Music being played everywhere…is no longer that way. Evening Entertainment was wonderful especially the Fire Show. Food Truck is gone and not coming back. Concierge was absolutely no help. For the Money spent expected so much more. Won’t return. Will go back to Excellence Punta Cana instead.

Well… I have to say…everyone needs to treat themselves to this resort at least once! The service is outstanding. The restaurants are top notch with amazing dishes to choose from. The place is as clean as Disney World. The staff are all truly incredible. They all really care about you having a fantastic time. The rooms are beautiful and the resort itself is soooo glamorous. You would be missing out not stay here at least once.

My husband and I stayed in Beach House 1 upper level for 2 weeks over Christmas. Excellence is a must as you have two extra pools, lounges and restaurants you can use. Plus alot more room at excellence club beach areas. As for covid protocols, Jamaica is like it never happened. Little to no mask use. No staff wore them nor guests. They did have hand sanitizer at the entrance to every restaurant and in all public washrooms with the soap. I didnt see any extra deep cleaning going on. Mind you the resort was spotlessly clean in all areas. Soap and hand sanitizer always full. Resort is stunning. Ocean views from all points at the resort. Beach house location is in a quiet area but leads to lots of walking to and from the restaurants and the theatre areas. Especially from beach house 1. We were beside the magna area and that was the only bonus to this location. If we return we would request a beach house more centrally located like 8-11. Golf carts were always quick to respond to our requests for one. House keeping did the bare minimum. Was not impressed with our housekeeping. Mini bar service was amazing. He always came through with whatever we wanted. As for food and drink, we've had better. In 14 days we went to each and every restaurant and in all honesty we were at a loss as to which restaurant we wanted to visit for a second time. Food was all presented in a lovely manner, small portions, but in our opinion food was only good. We never went hungry. If we werent eating Jerk we found the food very bland. Breakfast was excellent at the Kitchen Table. Coffee there was excellent. French press coffee in the excellence restaurants just wasn't for us. Drinks on the beach were overly sweet most times and made with poor quality rum. No Appleton rum to be seen and we are in Jamaica for goodness sake. Evening drinks were of a better quality all across the resort. We are big beach people and the beach was a bit of a let down for us. The beach itself was fine but the water was far too shallow and weedy to just jump in anywhere. There were only one or two spots where you could get into the ocean and have a decent swim. This is a deal breaker for us for future trips to this resort. Finally the staff. What can you say they were all outstanding and very professional. They all had charm and charisma and bent over backwards to make your stay one of a kind. Nothing was too much for them. Anything we asked for we got. The staff makes this whole resort. What an amazing bunch of people. Because of the people we met in Jamaica is what makes us want to come back to this island. Air Transat was amazing both ways. No delays, baggage came with us both ways and club class in our opinion is the only way to fly. Outstanding service comfortable seating, tons of personal leg and shoulder room and very personable flight attendants. Perks of this class are second to none. To sum this up we did have a jamazing time here. The resort, the staff were outstanding. Would we go back to this resort, probably not due to the beach. Would we try another excellence resort, absolutely. Would we go back to Jamaica, in a heartbeat.

The excellence brand is a well-oiled machine operationally. I have been to the one in DR and Jamaica as well. The resort is well maintained and modern. The food is “meh” BUT it depends what YOU are used to. If you are a foodie who likes to go to nice restaurants in your city, this is not the resort for you. The food is a 6 out 10 and that’s being nice. The bathrooms are ridiculous. Open concept to the rest of the room with only a glass door on the toilet that does not muffle any sounds, it actually broadcasts the sounds. You can basically hear everything (and I mean everything) that is going on in there when someone is on the toilet. Total romance killer. Even when someone is blow drying their hair, you will have to leave the room. It’s just such a horrible idea. Oh… and by the way, the pools are not heated which came at an incredible disappointment to many guests.

The resort was fantastic. Entertainment every day, restaurants and food were great and the staff friendly and courteous. Resort was kept clean and pristine. The only negative were the rip tides but the resort can’t control the ocean!

Almost like Covid doesn’t exist in the resort,airports and transfers. Extremely disappointed with the food in this supposed 5 star resort. We noticed it had declined at Excellence Playa Mujeres as well. Much worse here though as steak in all restaurants is tough and hardly able to cut, let alone eat. Lobster was overcooked and also chewy. Breakfast was always cold unless you had your eggs made to order. Bacon,toast,waffles,pancakes,everything cold at Magna, Lobster house and Kitchen table. Drinks were only good at Magna, for the price of this resort, the drinks and food should be great at ALL restaurants and bars. Especially when upgrading to excellence club. Turndown service happened once in 8 days. Day staff was good and night staff. Entertainment was cheesy at best every night.Totally mislead by all the positive reviews on this place. Time for a real review. This place has basically turned us off from the all inclusive brands. Definitely not worth the money. Sorry, we started coming to Excellence for the top notch food and drinks which are very important to an expensive 5 star holiday. Punta Cana does not compare to Mexico or other Caribbean islands……will not return.

Wonderful beautiful clean resort. Staff was friendly and helpful. Great chose of restaurants. Amazing sandy beach. Swim up room was great for a morning dip after coffee on your private patio. Easy check in and check out. Nightly entertainment with great variety

This was our third visit to the Excellence Punta Cana but our first time back since Covid. Staff were awesome- would go out of their way to may your dining and beach experience memorable. Food was very good- especially Chez Isabel restaurant and breakfast at the Magna. Love the natural beach without motorized sports- it was breezy most days so surf was high and great effort to keep seaweed at bay. We were celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary while there and asked our agent to reserve the free anniversary package they offer for us when booking, as well, we mentioned it during check in but we’re very disappointed when the only thing they did was make a heart on our table at dinner- we did not receive anything advertised in their Excellence Club Anniversary Package. Quite the disappointment after spending the money and risking travel during Covid to celebrate such a milestone in our marriage on such a beautiful resort!! We had celebrated our 30th anniversary at the Excellence El Carmen(without the upgrade to Excellence Club) and they had gone out of their way to make it extra special. Covid protocols were great- my husband has some health issues and we were concerned at first about travelling but we felt very safe at the resort and felt comfortable to move about freely without masks. Our luggage was sanitized upon arrival, hand sanitizing everywhere you turn, our room was sanitized and had a seal across the door upon arrival, our room had a convenience kit with face masks and bottle of sanitizer and ‘health stations’ were throughout the resort to replenish if needed. The biggest comfort was knowing the resort had a courtesy suite to isolate in if we did come down with Covid while there and it was free of charge! The buffet had taken some extra measures to reduce guest handling of foods and kept things behind glass where they would serve you and tables were spaced, as well as with Theatre seating for evening entertainment. Happy to report we are home, had a great trip and remain Covid free! Great resort but not true to what they advertise in their anniversary package.

This was my first trip to Mexico. I was amazed at the beautiful resort. Everything was spotless and the grounds were absolutely lovely. The service was excellent. The staff all wore masks and I never once saw anyone adjusting or lifting their masks. I felt confident that the staff at the resort were going above and beyond to ensure the safety of the guests as well as themselves. I highly recommend this resort and I hope to return there in the future.

This resort lives up to its name, everything from our room, restaurants, beach and entertainment were Excellent. We celebrated our 25th anniversary and my birthday while there, staff went above and beyond. Special shout out to Victor at the Excellence club beach area and Lizbeth in the club excellence office, the special decorations in our room to celebrate my birthday were beautiful. A big thank you to the Excellence Punta Cana for helping make our trip one to remember!!!! We would also like to thank out travel agent Carol Webber for helping us book our special vacation.

We had an amazing time at this hotel, everything from the smallest detail to the biggest was not overlooked. Loved and enjoyed the atmosphere, the grounds and above all, the staff. We will continue visiting the Excellence resorts as they’ve become our favourite hotel brand.

This resort was great. We enjoyed every minute of our 7 day stay. From the moment we arrived to the moment we had to say good bye, the staff was friendly, food was great, beach was beautiful, drinks were plentiful. We have no negative comments and would recommend.

This is our second time at this resort and was disappointed with the quality of the service, food and wine. Compared to pre covid, their shine which made us go back has diminished. At this price, I am expecting 5 star food and wine. We lost two nights sleep given a plumbing issue with the private pools. They didn’t replenish amenities on our last full day as if we were checking out (ie coffee). Staff wore masks and the resort was clean. Will reconsider a third visit.

This resort is absolutely beautiful. The staff is very friendly. The service is the best. The food at every restaurant was amazing. We had a swim up room and the bar service was great around the lazy pool. This was our second time at the ERC and it will not be our last!

Highly recommend this resort! The staff is very attentive & friendly. We felt very safe, all the staff wear masks and they have hand sanitizer at every restaurant of which they ask you to use. They even use tongs to place the napkin on your lap. Everything seemed spaced apart so you didn’t feel you were crowded. The resort itself is very secluded on it’s own peninsula and the property is spread out so lots of private areas if you wanted especially in excellence club beach areas.

This is by far the best resort we have ever been to. Everything they had to offer met our standards and exceeded our expectations. The grounds are immaculate, all facilities have been played out with thought and the beach was excellent for lounging and walking.

This resort did not disappoint!! The resort is a good size, not too large and easy to navigate. Well appointed rooms, beautifully maintained grounds, decent food, great entertainment and friendly staff.

Truly a 5 star resort experience. Definitely worth the upgrade to Excellence Club - exclusive beach area, Magna Restaurant & lounge with high end booze. Superb service from the staff with many of them remembering us from 2 years ago! No wrist bands or reservations required for the restaurants. Food is varied & very good, with 7 restaurants open most nights. Our favourites were the Magna & the Grill Steakhouse. Nightly entertainment was good to excellent - our faves were the superb saxophone playing by Alejandro in the Martini Bar, & the Gypsy Kings Tribute band. This is not a good place for swimming in the ocean with high waves & pounding surf over most of the beach area. It is also a good half to three quarters of an hour drive from the airport, so accessing anything offsite requires planning. I recommend this place for older couples who want a mellow experience, chill at the pool or on the beach, eat excellent food & enjoy the entertainment.

Loved the layout of this hotel and the upgrade to Ocean view was definitely worth the price. Particularly liked that there many restaurants to choose from. (as to be expected some were better than others, The Lobster House was surprisingly the one we enjoyed the least.) Oregano and The Grill were our lunch time favourites and Mexican and Spanish were top dinner choices. Rooms were decent, only complaint was that we would have liked sheets changed mid week but overall staff and service were excellent. Property absolutely gorgeous and loved that there were lots of chairs around the pool and beach. Would definitely go back.

We enjoyed this resort very much. The beaches and restaurants are wonderful and belonging to the Club is definitely worth while. Their restaurant is excellent. We definitely would prefer more written info, especially a map of the grounds and restaurant menus. We do not all own cell phones so having to deal with everything online is not convenient. This may prevent us from returning to this resort. Also they need to supply you with more info on what is required to get your PCR test when you first arrive. That way you are prepared with passports, masks, VISA, etc when you go to book your appointment.

It was our first time at this resort. We had previously been to another excellence resort and decided to try this location. We were not disappointed. It had the same service and format. From the moment we arrived we were taken care of and pampered by the wonderful staff. We stayed in the excellence club section in a swim up room. It's well worth it. The room was very comfortable and clean. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The resort has their own app and you can see the restaurants and menus before you go to eat as well as other services offered at the resort. The beach was very clean. There was lots of chairs and cabanas to lie on. The drinks were great as well as the food. The night time shows were very entertaining. Overall the Excellence is a resort you can trust to be safe and entertained, a place to relax and enjoy your vacation.

The room, restaurants, and entire resort grounds were immaculate and well maintained. Food was excellent and staff were all very friendly. Service was exceptional. The PCR Covid testing for returning to Canada was easy and quick. I cannot find anything to fault with our stay at Excellence El Carmen.The perfect place for a much needed week of R&R.

The Excellence lives up to its name, with beautiful landscaped gardens, large beach, many pools and restaurants. The Magna restaurant at the Club is the perfect way to start the day, sitting outside and enjoying fresh fruit , French press coffee and a variety of breakfast choices. Be prepared for digital menus only, sometimes irritating to navigate.

Great food, pools and beach area was always so well maintained and clean, friendly staff wearing masks all the time, great restaurants and food was exceptional. Though lunch buffet has been temporarily discontinued due to covid (i think). Room service food is good too. Rooms were cleaned and beds made every day. Entertainment nightly was so fun especially the solo sax player created such an amazing atmosphere most evenings. Evenings can get a bit cooler and a cardigan is a good idea. So well managed. Highly recommend. 5 stars!

As I’m sure that there are many people wondering if they should travel because of Covid. Here is some info. For insurance purposes, we got the Manulife Covid-19 Pandemic Travel Plan - medical and trip interruption coverage. I purchased it online a couple of days before we left. It was $65 total for both of us. It covers you if you get Covid while on vacation and if the government changes to a level 4 travel restriction. If you go to the Excellence website- there is a long explanation of their Covid safety protocols and there is a Frequently Asked Questions page that explains their complementary stay if you test positive on your Covid test. We left from Toronto in the early afternoon. We found that the airport was not too busy. We wore N95 masks and didn’t eat or drink on the plane (you can if you choose to but are encouraged to not keep your mask off for very long). At the resort, most staff wear the clear masks that go up from their chin. Some staff wear the blue surgical masks. Most guests do not wear masks inside or outside. Some guests do - so it is up to your comfort. For the Covid tests, you can go to the Concierge Desk at 8:00 am two days before your departure. You pay for your PCR test at the front desk and fill out a form for each person at the Concierge Desk. You will need to have your passport numbers, flight date and flight time. You then go to the concierge room of building 10 for the PCR test (building 8 for rapid test). There is usually a short wait for PCR tests and sometimes a longer wait for rapid tests. Make sure to bring a phone or tablet for each person (they don’t tell you this). When you enter the room, you need to scan a QR code and basically fill out the same info that you fill out on the paper form - including passport number and email address. They emailed the results to us in about 36 hours. They have hand sanitizer at all bars, entrances to all restaurants, and at the front desks and elevators. The buffet is like it used to be - you serve yourself. The tables at some restaurants are well spaced out. At some restaurants the tables are quite close together. Many restaurants have an option to sit outside or inside. You can also get room service 24 hours a day for any meal if you prefer to eat in your room. We chose to get a room with a private pool and we used private transfers to be extra safe. The two pools near buildings 12 to 16 are quiet if you are not comfortable at the busy main pool. When we arrived in Toronto, after doing the usual declaration and customs, we got our luggage and then we were directed to the area for our PCR test. I had registered on the Switch Health website ahead of time so I didn’t have to frantically do it at the airport. I would say it took about 30 minutes to go through the line. They email the results within 72 hours. We felt safe at Excellence El Carmen. We were outside most of the time and were able to be socially distant from others. We are happy that we didn’t cancel. It was much needed break from the Covid world in Ontario right now. Here is a list of things to remember to do: The day before you leave for your vacation: *Do the Dominican Republic online form to get a QR code to show at the airport - I took a screen shot of it. *Download the Excellence El Carmen app and do the online check-in *Do your online check-in for your flight *Download the ArriveCAN app and fill out traveller info and get started on your ArriveCAN form. *Download the Canada eDeclaration app *Download or print your proof of vaccination QR code *Search “Arriving into Canada - Toronto Pearson Airport” for the link to Switch Health Arrival Tests and info about your arrival test *Register on the Switch Health website - this will be so you will be ready for your PCR test at the Canada Airport 12 to 24 hours before your flight home: *Take a screen shot of your proof of negative PCR test to show at the airport * Do the Dominican Republic online form to get a QR code to show at the airport - I took a screen shot of it *Do your online check-in for your flight *On the ArriveCAN app complete your ArriveCAN form - I took a screen shot of the QR code *Complete the Canada eDeclaration app form - I took a screen shot of the QR code *Have $20 US cash for each person to give when you go through security. The Excellence Staff were amazing. Restaurants were so inviting and personal. Special mention to Emilio and Franchiely at the Lobster House. Another Special mention to Frialyn who stood out above all others. Frailyn represented the resort with such a dynamic and professional service at the Excellence Beach Club. This was our second time at this resort but it won't be our last.

First time visiting an Excellence Hotel, and we will be back. Beautiful spacious property with lots of greenery, palm trees, and places to sit and relax. The staff attentiveness and overall service level was top notch. Bars & washrooms are plenty and conveniently located. A very large beachfront, but it had some erosion that staff were actively working on repairing. Minimal seaweed which was cleaned up daily. Most days the ocean had just the right amount of waves to swim/play. We stayed over Christmas and they were fully booked but it never felt crowded, most days we could still get a front row palapa on the beach at 9am. Restaurants were all spacious, and most had options to eat outside. No dinner buffet, and no dinner reservations, but only a short wait for the restaurants. Food was hit or miss and I did get food poisoning one night. The menu's can only be accessed via the Excellence App (covid protocol) which is a nuisance if you're trying to "unplug" on vacation. Men need to have pants, shoes, and collar shirt for dinner. Due to COVID we mostly kept to ourselves, which was easy to do at this resort. All staff are vaccinated and wear clear mouth shields, but shields were often sitting low on their chin and not really doing much. Its up to the guests discretion if they want to wear a mask once on the property and most did not. For the pre-departure COVID test ($80USD) Reception did not provide clear instructions. They do not make appointments and you have to wait in line. Prepay for test at main desk, bring receipt to concierge desk to pickup test paperwork, then go to test building where you'll need your phone to fill out the same information again online. Results took about 36 hours and go to your email (junk box). We had a swim up room on the A side of building, but request B side for better sun exposure. We did not do the Excellence Club upgrade and did not feel like we were missing anything. Previously staying with Royalton, the base level at Excellence El Carmen was on par with Royalton Chic Diamond Club. If our visit had not been during a pandemic we might have rated this resort lower, many returning guests commented things were not up to pre-covid standards, but the staff were working hard to get through shortcomings. Overall we loved this resort and had an amazing vacation!

My husband and I travel at least 4 or 5 times a year to different all-inclusive resorts. The Excellence Oyster Bay EOB has now become one of our favorites and was even better than our trip to EPM. Our previous trip to the EEC in October of 2021, left us feeling like Covid had taken the shine off of travel. We were disappointed with the service received as well as supply issues. Staff were not friendly or very accommodating. We were concerned that our trip in December to EOB would be a repeat. Boy were we wrong. The service at EOB is outstanding. They were so friendly and accommodating of our every need. I cant say enough about how amazing everyone was. Any issues that arose were dealt with quickly and they would follow up to ensure the problem didnt reoccur. We have never felt so pampered as we did at EOB. Did they run out of things ie mint for the mojito - yes. But they would try and come up with a delicious alternative for you. When the mint came in, you would be suddenly surprised with a mojito being delivered (without asking) to let you know they had some. Everyone went above and beyond to make this trip fabulous. I cant say enough about the staff. Even the gardeners and the security would stop and chat with you and ask how your day was going. We spent our days in the Excellent Club Pool at Magna. Danielle made sure we were well taken care of as did all the staff at The Excellence Club. The bartender at Magna was superb!!!! I am so sad that I lost my note with the names of people that went above and beyond as they were truly so spectacular they deserve recognition. Mosquitoes were bad. There are mixed comments on this issue. They fog everyday and we never had an issue anywhere at the resort except when we sat outside on the deck of our room. We had a private pool with a large deck and I think the issue maybe that the mosquitoes live in the dampness under the deck. I got eaten alive and I wouldn't use the deck. Also the pool was very cold. I personally wouldn't spend the money on an upgraded room. Take the basic room and upgrade to the Excellence Club - it was worth it. We also noted the rooms are very damp and would recommend damprid (as noted in other peoples post - but we have never used this as other resorts). We loved this resort. It was our favorite of all of the Excellence All-inclusive Resorts and we will be back.

This resort, like the other Excellence Resorts is very nice, well kept. Staff super friendly and caring. They have sanitizing stations through out the resort, masks optional. PCR testing ran smooth, pretty well organized. Overall I would go back after covid cases lower and restrictions decrease again. A lot more restrictions implemented while away making it hard to decipher what was required upon returning home.

Love the fact that the resort is relatively small and parallel to the beach. Ample beach lounge chairs so no need to wake up super early to reserve... There is plenty available all the time. The food is really good and the rooms are spacious and clean. Note to consider: The beach flag is always RED meaning Danger. Therefore, for those hoping to swim in the ocean at your leisure, beware. You can "stand up" in the waves, close the edge of the sand but you can rarely go out and actually swim since the waves are pretty strong and high. This is our 2nd time at this resort and we love it. BUT, this time, I must admit that help and reassurances concerning getting our negative Covid test back in time were not handled with empathy. It was really late coming in. We had found the phone number of the clinic to enquire but the staff at the clinic only spoke Spanish and none of the Desk clerks were willing to take the call and translate for us. We had to wait. Were extremely worried. It finally got resolved but there seemed to have been a sense of "it's not really our problem.

Fantastic resort! The food, the people and the rooms were all very wonderful. Ceaser, part of the excellence club was very helpful and polite. Joendry on the beach always made sure we had what we needed along with all the staff at the resort. We will be back!

My husband and I stayed at the Excellence El Carmen and we had an amazing time. Wearing a mask was optional at the resort but we never felt safer with all the protocols they had in place. The restaurants were clean, the staff was amazing and the beaches were pristine. Everyone was so helpful. Our suite with our own private pool was breathtaking. We can’t wait to go to another Excellence property soon!

We love the Excellence hotel chain and have stayed at EPM, EPC and are booked at EOB in December. The service is always amazing. Our recent stay at EEC was a bit disappointing. There was nothing major that would ruin our trip and most of the issues were minor and were fairly easily resolved. However, it wasn't the level of service that we have come to expect from the Excellence hotels. When we arrived, there was no glasses of champagne waiting or cool towels. We checked in and found the front desk staff not overly friendly. Usually they cant wait to welcome previous guests "home". They didn't give our bellboy our room key which was easily resolved. Getting ready for dinner on day one we realized that none of the plugs in the room were working. They did send someone fairly quickly to rectify the situation. We ordered a bottle of wine which took over 2 hours to arrive and repeated phone callsrequired but when it arrived we were not given an opener or wine glasses. We requested early maid service for our stay and would leave the please make up the room sign on the door (we were the only ones in our hallway that put the sign out) but unfortunately one day it was 5 pm before the room was made up and 630 when they came for turndown. We requested wine in the room daily which we have done at other Excellence resorts with no issue. We only received wine in the room on one occasion and that day we came back to the room and found a bottle of wine, again no glasses, but the other alcohol from the room had all been removed. This was the only day we received wine in the room without following up. My husband drank the beer in the fridge on day one and it was never replenished. The clothing steamer in the room was broken as well. The food in the restaurants was good. We did note that one night there was no lobster at the lobster house and one evening very limited cuts of meat at the steak house. They didn't have syrup on a few occasions at the buffet. Again, we just didn't find the same level of service we have experienced in the past. At lunch they have nacho's on the menu. We requested just the chips and guacamole but they wouldn't do that even though it was the same as the nacho's without the cheese. I assume that finding staff and getting supplies may be impacted by covid as all hotel staff at this resort have been doubly vaccinated (which is amazing). It was the little things like going for a nice dinner and them running out of glass ware so you were given plastic cups for the wine. There was never any toilet paper etc. I know these things sound knit-picky but we have come to expect better from this chain. Complaints to the front desk were disregarded until the second to last day when a young woman finally listened to our concerns. There were also some issues with noise as we were very close to the theatre and one night the karaoke went on till after midnight only to be woken at 7 for a tree being cut down. That being said, there were some standouts - Mac Donald in the coffee house, Raphael in the breakfast buffet and at the French and Jasmine by the pool - great job and great service!!!. All in all it was not the level of service expected but the resort is lovely and we had a good time.

My partner and I just completed a one week stay at EOB last week. Overall, we really enjoyed our time here. The private beach was beautiful, the amenities were lovely and the rooms were spacious and well-designed. Staff were generally very friendly and attentive. Most of my negative feedback was related to the food: *This was some of the worst resort food I have had anywhere. The produce was bad, fruit and veggies were wilted, flavourless and colourless. *There were few healthy options and gave up on salads after day two as no matter how the salad was described, i.e.'Creole salad, Crunchy slaw" etc it was all the same dark green shredded lettuce mixture, usually no salad dressing and definitely no slaw-like veggies in site. *It would've been nice if there was always a buffet meal option, other than just for breakfast. *Stick to basics and Jamaican food. So many of the menus featured overly-complicated and fancy sounding descriptions, when in reality, it was just a flavourless variety of whatever you may have ordered i.e. pasta pizza fish meat etc. *Portions could be tiny and my meat was always undercooked or tough and chewy. *For people who don't day drink, or drink at all, having the option of various fruit juices and smoothies by the pool and beach all day would've been awesome. *The blended cocktails were not the best, tasted like they were from a cheap mixture. *If you are bringing USD for tipping, do yourself a favour and try and get as many ones as you can before entering the resort as it was often impossible to get anyone to break up bills into smaller amounts for us. *As I have experienced at other resorts, it would've been nice to have our keycards on wearable bracelets but not a big deal. Ultimately, enjoyed our stay here and would recommend to people as long as quality of food is not a dealbreaker (for some, it is not important but more so weather, atmosphere, overall experience etc.)

We were on our Honeymoon and could of not of had a better resort. The hotel grounds are beautiful and clean. The pool is the amazing and there is no better way to spend the day, then floating down it like a lazy river with a frozen drink in your hand. The rooms are spotless and updated. The food is amazing in every Restaurant from the coffee bar (Aroma), sports bar, and my favorite the Agave (chicken fajitas are amazing) you will not be disappointed, Definitely the best in the Dominican. The nightly entertainment was the icing on the cake. And of course what makes this hotel a 5 star is the service. All the staff treat you like Royalty, they bend over backwards to make sure all your needs are met.

the room was very nice, however we spent the money to upgrade to the swim up room and we were very disappointed. The pool was only skimmed it was not cleaned once for the week we were there. The build up was noticeable and tile was in rough shape. We had maintenance come to fix the deck outside the door because of the dip in it. Also had to have them fix the front door because it wouldn't lock unless you pulled it tight.

The people are warm and hospitable. The weather and beaches are superb. But the suites are old, outdated. No night tables. We paid extra for the Honeymoon suite. Not a single drawer to store your clothing...no clothing hooks, no towel bars, just holes where they used to be, room service but no tables large enough to hold two plates. The shower was old and flooded immediately, drains clogged. We had to wait an hour between showers to let the water drain. The jacuzzi tub shot out rust and dirt...even after it was repaired several times during our stay.The sofa was covered with a slip cover...something cheap and disgusting. We spent much of our time calling for repairs. Very disappointing.

My wife and I stayed at the Excellence Punta Cana for a week at the end of February 2020. From the time we arrived at the front door it was a first class experience. All the staff were incredibly courteous and helpful. The food was great and the service was excellent even by the pool and on the beach. We had lots of choices for dinner in various restaurants with no reservations required. The entertainment was fantastic with a new show every night. The grounds were clean and extremely well kept and the beach was groomed every day. There were lots of beach umbrellas and lounge chairs to go around which was a pleasant surprise. The beach was beautiful with soft fine sand and lots of palm trees as a backdrop. Our room was clean and well maintained every day. Overall a great experience.

Beautiful modern hotel; well laid out. Beach is perfect. Amazing staff and entertainment! Great food, awesome Martini bar. Spa is heavenly ! Great place for couples to relax and have a romantic getaway. Loved it ♥️

We had an amazing time at Excellence El Carmen. The staff was always very friendly and helpful. The resort is kept very clean.The beach access was great. The beach was clean and the sea as well. We had access either to the beach or the pool. We had a room with a private pool. The room was clean to the standard of what I have expected. The pool was cleaned and chemicals were added every day. It would have been more ideal to have one buffet style meal rather than having the restaurants open on alternate nights of each other. All in all, we got treated like royalty and the resort is a dream. We definitely go back.

Staff was so friendly! Genuinely happy to see you and help out however they could. I travelled solo and the staff made all the difference to my experience. The various pools made the resort feel very exclusive and boutique while still being able to maintaining the perks and amenities of a larger resort.

Most beautiful resort we have been to. Resort and grounds and pools are very clean and well kept . Many pools to choose from . One heated pool but we found other pools to be much more refreshing . Entertainment was great . Service was excellent everywhere we went . We never had to leave our chairs to go find a drink . And always could find a chair at ocean pools or bars any time of the day ! This resort truly was excellence . We will definately be returning !

The resort and the staff are amazing. We stayed in an oceanfront with private plunge pool. The room was amazing. The staff were all eager to please and always cheerful. the grounds are beautiful with lots of plants and greenery, there is also a area with trails surrounding ponds which have many different species of birds. Our favorite restaurant was the Tapa (small portions) delicious. We did not have any bad meal experience, they are all delicious and all have their specialties. You can walk for miles on the beach in either direction. We travel every year and this resort is by far at the top of our list for great resorts.

Thanks to our long standing travel agent Kevin we booked a 9 day stay at the Excellence Punta Cana. We have to say that everything from the check in upon arrival, the cleanliness of the room, the food at all of the restaurant as well as the friendliness of the staff made for an amazing stay. The staff never hesitated to go above and beyond to ensure that we always had everything that we needed to make our vacation a great one....service was second to none. I would definitely recommend this resort for couples as well as small groups of friends.

From the time we got there and were met with some bubbly, through the quick and easy check in with Edison until we got on the bus to leave we were pampered, entertained and catered to in a way I have never experienced. Jose lead pool side activities and poker with a style all his own. The shows at night were entertaining. Didn't get names but the bartenders at the lobby/ martini bar were fantastic and always knew what you wanted before you ordered, unless it was your 1st time. Staff at buffet would go the extra mile for you.. My wife liked to have a glass of chocolate milk with her breakfast 1st couple days staff went and searched and found it for her.. After that they had it ready for her every morning. At our pool bar Felix and crew were 6 star. we had a mixologist with use and they ran for different flavored liquors constantly and never disappointed. There was a wedding there while we were there and the Newlyweds told me their experience was fantastic. No fighting for loungers or day beds. No reservations needed so we never had to plan more then 20 mins ahead. we ate at grill twice both times top notch. Lobster house was very good. Did French twice too because it was just so good. A big shout out to Oscar at the spa who made my wife very happy with a vitamin E facial, She said she never felt so good and the truth is she looked5 years younger and so healthy and refreshed. Many people there were returnees and that is because of the awesome staff. Room service, mini bar stockers, cleaning people.. Everyone was just so friendly and accommodating. Only downside is it in the north and if you plan on excursion most are 1-2 hours away. Place is so great you wont want to go any where anyways..lol Danielle Smith at Bedford Tripcentral was there for me when I had questions. I would highly recommend her to anyone going on a trip.

We loved the resort. It was just like the pictures. Grounds very beautiful and the people were so friendly. The Jr. swim up rooms were the best. We enjoyed our stay immensely! A shout out to Oscar and Emiliano who were absolutely wonderful people!

It was the best resort ever in all my trip give this a 10 in all occasions the staff was extremely good and the rooms are all excellent so was the food at the pool bars they got amazing drinks and if they didn't have it they would call and it was there asap they made are holidays so relaxing thanks

We stayed at the hotel in February 2020 in the excellence club ocean front junior suite it was located in the main building which was super convenient. The room was extremely spacious, it had a walk in closet double sinks walk in shower. the view from the bed overlooks the ocean on our patio we had 2 day beds and an extremely large Jacuzzi tub along with two Muskoka chairs. The restaurants were amazing each and everyone of them the food was first class and the friendly staff and service was amazing. The loungers were plentiful by the pool and the beach never had to worry about getting a space. the towels were unlimited and no wristbands were required no beach vendors. The entertainment was great they actually had singers instead of lip-syncing. 24 hour room service and an amazing selection of breakfast lunch and dinner items even late night snacks. We loved everything about this hotel!

From the moment we got to the resort (which was at 230 am) they were waiting for us with towels and champagne! We had the swim up room which was incredible and would highly recommend. The staff was great (Juan was our waiter that came around to our room everyday) and so friendly! It was windy when we were there so spent most of our time at the pool and lazy river. The coffee bar was great along with the martini and cigar bars. 10 restaurants with all different types of food ( lobster, Mexican, Italian, French, hibachi, Indian etc). They had a turn down service every night with the next day schedule! Overall best resort we have been to!

My husband and I stayed at this resort from Monday, January 20, 2020 until Monday, February 3, 2020. We upgraded to Club status and were assigned room 3151. Unfortunately, this room was next to the staff room where they kept the cleaning supplies and trolleys. We were woken early every day with the staff chatting and wheeling the carts around. We went to check out the restaurants on the TV to see the menus, but unfortunately our TV did not work for 4 days. The resort was not full whilst we were there. I was disappointed that there was no tour of the facilities. With regard to the restaurants they were very good. The only complaint that we had was that the hot food at the main buffet was not very hot. The staff at the resort were excellent. We spent most of out time on the beach in the Club section, but unfortunately some of the vendors were noisy and annoying when we were trying to relax.. The beach staff also were excellent.

This was our second time to this resort. Last time was two years ago. We have to come to enjoy the Excellence brand. The resort layout, room and venues are quite modern. We stayed in building 6 and it was kind of in the middle of things. About a few minute walk to the main restaurants, pool and beach. The beach is a beautifle sugary light brown colour and you can walk a long ways both directions. The service level all over was excellent. We'll definitely be back.

Positives - Superior to excellent staff. Food choices & quality first-rate. Very good evening entertainment - don't miss the Queen tribute! Worthwhile to upgrade to Excellence Club - pools, beach service, exclusive restaurant, higher quality booze & amenities. Downsides - Most of the beach not swimable because of nasty surf & undertow.

We just returned from our 3rd trip to Excellence Punta Cana and they did not disappoint. Everything is just kept so clean inside and out. The staff is very friendly and helpful.Special thanks for Reyue in the office for her help with getting our boarding passes and to Melanie who kept our room impeccable.

Second visit to Excellence El Carmen and it surpassed expectations again. Food, service, ambiance, beach ... the whole package was 5 stars. The spa has one of the best hydrotherapy programs we've ever been to (and we've done a few!) Shout outs to Kinmay, Francheska, Andres, Oswaldo, Alma, Dianne, Jennifer, Zobeida, Diosmery, Grace for making our vacation "Excellent".

This resort is beautiful. Not alot of stairs or walking to get from one place to another. Beach is close to hotel as well. The ambiance in the restaurants could be a little more suited to each theme, but the food was great, so nothing to complain about. The best note on this property would have to go the staff. there was not one face that did not have a smile. Staff happy to help in any way they can. If you want it - you get it, fast and trouble free. About 45 min from airport - transfer was simple. Rooms are clean and spacious. We had a great time.

Very clean resort. Grounds were meticulously maintained. Some signs of wear and tear (tiles missing in pool) but overall, okay. Bar, porters and room service were outstanding. Restaurant staff ranged from indifferent to very good. Buffet is limited compared with other similarly rated resorts we've been to. Entertainment was okay but lacked variety (dance moves performed to different music themes gets repetitive). Don't get us wrong, we enjoyed the resort.

The Resort was great .food was good stuff was awesome. The stuff made you feel at home. The grounds were very clean. Never had a hard time to get chairs at the pool or the beach never had one complain about the resort.

The resort was great, the staff, the food and grounds were top notch. I, would highly recommend this resort.The pool and beaches are clean. Plenty of restaurants to choose from. Also no reservations required. There is an Ecological park on the grounds with wildlife, it was truly beautiful to walk through every morning.If you are an Ocean person, the water was very rough. This apparently is normal for that area. The live entertainment was also great. Excellence has a little something for everyone, young or old.

We had a good stay at Excellence El Carmen, but was a little underwhelmed with the resort. We had higher expectations for food quality and variety based on the hotels website descriptions. Upgraded excellence option keeps you close to the pools and beaches with large spacious rooms.

Excellence El Carmen lived up to its name, we had a wonderful time at the resort. The grounds were immaculate, staff was extremely friendly, food was delicious, 5 star resort hands down. Highly recommend the Excellence Club upgrade if you want to be pampered :)

The hotel offered amazing service from start to finish. The staff is always willing to help and go above and beyond for all guest. The food was amazing and hotel was very clean. The spa is well worth a try and French dinner was great. Lots of food choices.

Excellence El Carmen is a very well-run resort. The staff are beyond criticism. The rooms are spacious, clean and well tended. The grounds are well laid out and very well maintained. The food is plentiful, Well prepared and served promptly by efficient and friendly waiters. Daily entertainment is available pool-side and various acts are shown nightly. Excellence El Carmen is my first choice in Punta Cana

There are so many amazing things to say about this resort. Everything was so luxurious and romantic. we have never experience such amazing service. Frankie on the beach was so great, you never had to get up and get a drink. It was pure relaxation and luxury. The food was delicious, I honestly don’t have a bad thing to say about this resort. We would love to go back. Definitely a perfect honeymoon!!

This is a 5* all inclusive and worth the money. Service is exceptional and a lot of selection at the numerous restaurants. Rooms are beautiful and large and well maintained. The beach is wide and very long and kept clean. Lots of chairs and palapa so no reserving is necessary. Great time

We loved our time at Excellence Punta Cana. What an amazing resort. We were in the Excellence Club section and all I can say is wow. From the moment we arrived until our last drink on the beach the service was amazing. Would highly recommend this resort. Above all else I can say there service was great. The restaurants were very good and that you did not have to make a reservation was a nice bonus.

Staff was ver friendly and accommodating. Bar staff became friends.no problem getting pool loungers and really big umbrellas! Food was okay but was never served more than warm and servers were not familiar with the menu

Great weather, super beach, clean and well maintained. We had a wonderful relaxing week. You could find us every evening in the martini bar listening to a very mellow saxophone!! What could be better!

The hotel had excellent grounds that were well maintained. The friendly staff were always trying to please. The food was top notch and lived up to its 5star billing. Plenty of pools to choose from and always a lounger available at the pool and at the beach. The resort is a quieter resort, has a disco but you could truly relax.

This hotel has a very beautiful botanical garden with wild birds, an iguana and fish. Just gorgeous space for a quiet walk. The service and the food is first rate. Our rooms were great with all the expected amenities. We used a daily room service for coffee for convenience and luxury. The games area had all you needed to pass the time away when there was rain, The only thing I would recommend is to bring bug spray as there seems to be very small flies that will get you in the evening as you enjoy the outside. I would also always recommend to use the safe all the time as it is a smart move. Oh and as a final note try not to overeat as you will be tempted by all the great food and drinks. I only wish the common areas were non-smoking with designated smoking areas like the Alelier resort in Cancun.

Simply put this five star resort has to be experienced to appreciate. From its Champagne welcome to its impeccable beach, it truly is a wonder. Privacy, an exceptional suite with private pool, immaculate grounds it has all of the amenities you could imagine. The professionals that work within are there for every whim of your vacation. Graciousness.and a genuine concern for your holiday while staying within are embedded with the staff .Great food and refreshments of any kind are always available. Never open a door and or await anything you may desire, the staff is always their to accommodate you. Smiling faces everywhere and pools and hot tubs at every corner. The rooms themselves are wonderful. new and clean and kept. The ocean and beach are the best around and once again maintained and attended too. You will never go without at this amazing resort and it truly was a wonderful experience and holiday. Thankyou.....

This resort rocked! From the roomy beach to the amazing g room with private balcony and hot tub overlooking the lazy river I. Building #7 we thoroughly enjoyed living like rock stars for our stay. One suggestion would be the Sunwing rep pick up at airport was hard to find . More signage would have been great. Other than that truly a seamless trip!

An adult only resort built parallel to the beach. Many lounge chairs at the beach and pool. No need to reserve early in the morning. Food was delicious. Red wine finally served at room temperature! No weeds at the beach!

Excellence El Carmen was an incredible Adult only resort. I was most impressed with the staff at this resort. All of the staff was amazing! We were immediately greeted by the staff and offered champagne. Check in at the front desk was friendly and quick. Jennifer from Tripcentral had sent the request of a building and rooms side by side and the staff had taken care of all of the details. We had a swim up room in building 8, which we loved. The room was very clean and spacious. We had a King size bed, L shaped couch with many amenities. We were conveniently located close to the Theatre, Restaurants and multiple bars. We loved the fruit bar that was located across from our swim out with delicious fresh fruit smoothies available. Restaurants were great, had some great steak and seafood. (Chez Isabel, Lobster House, The Grill were a few of our favourites) At times there were wait times to get into restaurant. When we were their the Buffett was not open in the evenings, but had great breakfast and lunch options. Also 24 hour room service with many options as well as a well stocked mini bar daily. This medium sized resort was well laid out and had easy access to the main pool and beautiful sandy beach. The resort and beach was well maintained. Staff and Servers were always available to help in any way possible. There was always entertainment available if you chose to participate. Live instrumental music available each night in the martini bar. Nightly entertainment available every night at the theatre and outdoor plaza. Starting with a band and then a nightly show. Nightly turn down service always included a schedule for the following day called the Excellence Times. I would definitely recommend this resort and am already planning to visit again in the future.

We had no complaints about anything and would love to go back. The service, rooms, food, weather, everything was "excellent". The spa was exceptional. The people were the most friendly. The grounds were immaculate; the rooms left nothing wanting. The restaurants are top-of-the table, and the bars have a full range of drinks...many bartenders have their own specialty drinks. Notwithstanding, the aspect that will keep us coming back is the personalized service provided by all staff. And to top it all, celebrating our anniversary, the staff provided extra personalized attention to make our time unforgettable

Highly recommend Excellence Club category; oceanview swim-up suite. Some inconsistent service at times but good attempts to make up for this. Good size resort for all ages.

Clean Rooms - Great Staff - Great Food -This resort met all our expectations and we will definitely recommend it to others and will likely return again in the future. We especially loved the option of a lively time by the main pool or a quiet afternoon at the beach or another pool. Something for everyone here!!!

This was the best vacation and all due to this outstanding resort! The staff were so friendly and helpful. Always smiling!!! Room and private pool were amazing and the food and drink were superior. I have already recommended Excelkence El Carmen to friends and coworkers. One word to sum it up ‘Excellente!’
