Beautiful place well maintained clean delicious restaurant but sea weeds stop me to go in the ocean and I use only the pool , at least I have good weather , food was very good, service excellent, room clean and spacious.

This resort is stunning. The grounds are very well kept and clean. The rooms are large and comfortable. We had a garden view suite that had a jacuzzi on the balcony and a huge tub in the bathroom.The bed is super comfy. Staff here are amazing. The food was pretty good. Our favourite was definitely the Hibachi! You have lots of choices for food. Unfortunately my only negative would be the nightly entertainment. They do have small acts in the main lobby area. But that is only for an hour. There are small shows on the family side but we found it a little crazy with so many kids. Over all this is a fantastic resort and I would highly recommend it if you are looking to travel to Mayan Rivera.

Nice hotel but never use the beach because was smelling and full of grass , so I don’t use at all for 1 week, not happy at all , I hope my family goes the next week and don’t find the same situation….

The resort is very nice, service 5plus. Room very clean. However, they offered only 1 king bed for 2 women, even though I booked the room with the option of 2 beds. When I called Trip Central before my trip, they said that they put in a request for 2 beds; however, they never did. The hotel only offers 1 king bed; therefore, be careful when booking the hotel One restaurant was closed, but all of them are nice. One thing which is also not mentioned when booking is that in the adult section, the buffet is served only for breakfast and lunch, not dinner Beach- due to high seaweed season is not available- nobody is using beach- water is brown

The resort is beautiful. It it being renovated as some indicators of age are visible if looked closely. 5/5 still for facilities. Food was really good even at the buffet. I was worried and got FC to get access to reservations and restaurants but wasn’t needed for our group's particular needs. Beach was not usable due to sargassum but that is not the fault of the resort. Staff were friendly and hospitable. Our Family Concierge Eduardo was amazing! Request for him if you book Family Concierge room.

First and foremost, it is important to note that Zel Punta Cana is not located directly on the beach. While there is beach access via a short walk or shuttle, those looking for a true beachfront resort experience should be aware of this before booking. What truly sets this resort apart is its people. Every single employee we encountered was genuinely friendly, welcoming, and eager to help. Not once did we feel like we were imposing or inconveniencing anyone. The staff consistently delivered exceptional service and were undoubtedly one of the highlights of our stay. The resort itself is fairly new and offers a very peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. If you’re looking for a quiet, serene getaway focused on wellness and relaxation, this resort is an excellent choice. However, if you’re part of a younger crowd seeking a lively party pool scene, constant entertainment, and a high-energy atmosphere, this probably isn’t the resort for you. Zel is intentionally quieter and more laid-back. The accommodations are impressive. All rooms are spacious suites that are modern, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed. We also never had any difficulty finding pool chairs, which was refreshing compared to many Caribbean resorts where reserving loungers can become a daily competition. The fitness and wellness facilities are among the resort’s strongest features. The tennis courts are excellent, and there are numerous fitness and wellness activities offered throughout the property. The spa was pleasant, although not particularly memorable or exceptional compared to other resorts in this category. One area that deserves more attention is the maintenance of the outdoor grounds, particularly the palm trees around the pool areas. During our stay, we observed several palm trees with large dead fronds and hanging branches that appeared overdue for trimming. Beyond aesthetics, this presents a legitimate safety concern, as falling branches could potentially cause serious injury to guests. Given the otherwise high standards of the property, this is an area that management should address proactively. Unfortunately, the biggest opportunity for improvement is the food and beverage program. While the food quality was acceptable, the overall selection was limited and lacked variety throughout our stay. The buffet, when open, is relatively small, and menu options quickly become repetitive. Room service was particularly disappointing. The menu is very limited and lacks many of the simple comfort foods that guests often look for while on vacation. Adding items such as pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs, grilled cheese sandwiches, additional salad options, and other casual fare would significantly improve the guest experience. Even more surprising was the absence of a breakfast room service option, which feels like a significant oversight for a resort of this caliber. Similarly, the lunch offerings around the pool were limited and repetitive. The resort has tremendous potential, but the dining experience would benefit greatly from expanded menus and more variety throughout the day. During our stay, we also visited the neighboring Paradisus resort, which offers a completely different experience. Paradisus is a much larger property with separate family, adults-only, and more social or party-oriented sections. It features a larger buffet, more dining variety, and direct beach access. Guests seeking a larger, busier resort experience may find Paradisus more aligned with their preferences. Overall, Zel Punta Cana is a beautiful, tranquil resort with exceptional staff, spacious accommodations, excellent fitness facilities, and a relaxing atmosphere. If your goal is to unwind and enjoy a quieter vacation experience, it is certainly worth considering. However, the food offerings, room service program, dining variety, and outdoor maintenance require attention if the resort hopes to deliver an experience that fully matches the quality of its facilities and service.

Just got back from a wonderful 10-day vacation at this awesome resort. Grounds are immaculate, very clean. Same with our room, we were in building 4. Close to gym, pool and beach. Food is the best we've had in 7 trips to the Dominican. Lots of variety. yes, it repeats, but there is something for everyone. Top quality and fresh. Would not recommend staying here if you have mobility issues as alot of walking is required. 13 mins to main lobby and buffet. While golf carts are back and forth, we found them passing us most of the time as they were full. We will definitely be back!

The resort was lovely, rooms were very clean. Service was excellent; the staff were friendly. We really enjoyed the morning yoga & the foot massages on the beach. It’s a great resort for a relaxing low key holiday. We would definitely recommend it to friends & plan to return.

Beautiful resort. Appeared to be well kept. We upgraded to the Level upon arrival. We were put in room 1516 the view was like looking at a dumpster. Loud motorcycles all day long and trucks back and forth. Very noisy when the patio was open. Housekeeping was disappointing. The room was average, nothing special at all. Day two the housekeeper did not put clean or any pillowcases on the pillows (had to lodge a complaint twice), the next day the room was not done by 230pm ( had to complain about that). I left a healthy tip each day and it didn’t make a difference. Honestly, it didn’t feel like an upgrade at all. Aside from that, I would recommend the Level upgrade for all of the perks that come with it. Private pool, etc.

Originally booked at the adults only Punta Cana Beach but the other couple in our party booked Caribe Family resort in error. Punta Cana Beach had no room we moved to the Caribe side which is a family resort. We had a wonderful time and would not hesitate to book there again.

Big resort. Very clean (room and public spaces). Friendly staff. The only thing is the sargassum. But the beach was cleaned every morning. And it’s something nobody has control. The pools were cristal clean!

Class, the hotel was, from check-in to check-out and everything in between, with attention to detail in every aspect, from the smiles of all the staff and attentiveness to ensure you have the best time, to the cleanliness of the entire hotel. Class!

Staff, room, activities and restaurants were exceptional. Beach was not very good as there was considerable seaweed washed up on the shore making access difficult. The pool though was great with numerous activities (and cocktails!).

The hotel was well maintained given its age, spacious and clean and likewise with the guest rooms. The property is large and the buildings are spread out so there was quite a bit of walking for us. Staff were friendly and helpful. Disappointed could not find a coconut drink everyday and was not aware that it was available only on the weekend. The food was average except for the breakfast where there was quite a variety offered. Night shows were ok but not advertised ahead of time. I liked the fact that the hotel was close to the airport although took an hour to get to the airport on the departure day due to numerous pickups and traffic. Overall a good experience and vacation.

I travelled with my husband and another couple with a newborn. The staff were very friendly and super helpful. While we didn’t need entertainment for the baby, we noticed there were plenty of activities to keep kids occupied. We also spent some time on the adult side, which was pleasant and offered a good variety of events—creating a nice balance overall. The pools were great, with lots of seating available. I would avoid the Family Concierge pool, as it always seemed to be the busiest area. That said, I do wish there were more umbrellas for shade—it often felt like a scramble to find one, and they weren’t easy to move when needed. The beach was lovely, with plenty of seating and a volleyball court. There was some seaweed, but it was consistently cleared in the mornings and throughout the day, so it didn’t impact our experience much. If you upgrade to the Family Concierge, the beach chairs and service are noticeably better. That said, overall I don’t think the upgrade is worth it (we didn’t upgrade but did spend a day in the concierge beach area). The rooms were nice, with comfortable beds. I understand the family side is due for renovations, but even without a facelift, it was still very enjoyable. One tip: avoid a connecting room if you don’t need one—we had to switch after the first night because we could hear the family next door very clearly. The restaurants were decent overall, and the buffet was actually excellent. Agave stood out as the best restaurant on the property. We also visited the spa. The massages were fantastic, but the facilities didn’t quite meet expectations. You only get access to the pool, sauna, and steam room for one hour before your treatment, which doesn’t feel like great value given the cost. Overall, it was a great stay for a family, especially considering the price

Cons: We waited an additional 25 minutes after the last group entered the bus before leaving the arrival terminal. Maybe others took private transportation? The transport company needs to have a process to locate missing or move on. Check-in staff barely spoke English, had poor communication skills, ignored our room requests, failed to provide towel and safe cards in the welcome package and took 45 minutes. Most staff were disinterested in their job and the customers. We often had to ask multiple times for water and coffee upon arrival to the restaurents. A-la carte restaurants can only be booked after 8 AM and only for that day and the following two days. So every morning line up in the lobby or Bazarra Rest. kiosk and hope to get a seat on last day as the others are already booked. The main pool had few activities and the entertainment staff was not engaging with guests the remainder of the time. They did not broadcast upcoming activities. The main pool was on average 4' 6" deep which was a bit too much for smaller ladies and kids. More shuttles are needed due to the long distance between main building and pool/beach areas.. Housekeeping service was inconsistent - most days facecloths and a floor towel were not provided. The bathroom floor tile was extremely slippery. We did not have the Level package. Kayak rental was offered at $50 USD/hour. Tennis was free. Pickleball required a fee or Level package to access at the Rafael Nadel tennis center. Fees and inclusions are not clearly advertised. The main pool bar ran out of or never had many basic items such as bananas, coconut rum and mojito ingredients. The resort often used paper rather than re-usable plastic cups. Pros: Direct flights. Wrist bracelets contain the RF chip to allow room access. The property was beautiful. The main pool was massive with plenty of seating and shade options. The beachfront was wide and clean with soft sand. The foam party was decent. Food was reasonable in both buffets and a-la cartes. The kids pool had lots of activities, chicken wings and tasty hamburgers. Best staff: two older guys in the Kids pool restaurant; the lady and the two middle aged guys at the main pool and a couple of the staff at check out. We are experienced Caribbean All-inclusive travelers and easy going. By the third day our group had all decided we would not return to this resort.

Returned Saturday from a week long trip. What an incredible week. Everything exceeded our expectations. Id return in a heartbeat. The reserve upgrade was more then worth it. By far the best resort we have been to. Rooms Temperature was good. kept the room comfortable. Plenty of space. Great view. Restaurants Flora, not impressed octopus was over cooked and portions were small. Many kids running around unattended Blue agave, Great variety of tacos for lunch and great topping bar Sals, Best restaurant by far. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. Lemon Fish, Seafood was so fresh and tasty. Lots of variety. Octopus was awesome. Tokimeku, Had a the hibachi experience. Great show and incredible food. Bog portions Hadar, Lots of variety. Great tasting food. My only critique was improper signage. Many items did not have signs, left guessing what the food was. Fahrenheit,Great for lunch. Fresh food great tasting. Capella, Great variety of fresh pasta. Pizza was good too. Sante, we came for lunch and breakfast more then once. So fresh, lots of variety. Our concierge was Eduardo. We've had concierges before. He was helpful, but not overly attentive. But came through in the end for us in helping us get a late checkout. The family said had ALOT of kids. I dont think ive ever seen a resort with that many kids before. We were very glad we were were on the adults only side. Dinner was much more peaceful and classy. Beach, soft white sand beautiful. Many available beach chairs. Reserve pool, its definitely more quite then the Fahrenheit pool. There was no music playing. I didnt want a party pool, but a little background ambience would be nice. the bartender and waitstaff Jairo, Sebastian, and Bladimir were top notch. Alfredo was #1 He was always smiling and singing. He'd go out of his way to get you what you needed. As an added bonus of the reserve, you can book bali beds ahead of time. Amazing perk. But in all honesty, whether it was the reserve pool or the Fahrenheit pool, we never had issues finding pool chairs, even midday. Staff, I read reviews of the staff, prior to going to the resort. And all the reviews were right. The staff here on on another level above the rest. They were all so polite and professional and courteous. Always willing to assist. If there is a weak point, it's late night activities and the announcement of activities. The shows were mostly held in the south bar. And we found it to be too warm in there. No airflow. We loved the shows, beautifully put together. But at some times, we would leave mid show because we were over heating. Some over head fans would be nice. I wish there was more outdoor space to sit outside and enjoy a cocktail in the night time. Location, great location beautiful mangroves on the grounds. The grounds were immaculately kept. Resort is a 20 min walk into town for shopping, Or $25 usd taxi. We were only approached once for the "time share" meeting. They were polite and not pushy. We politely declined and heard nothing more about it Gym on the reserve side was small but we never had any issues with our workouts each morning. We went to the la perla gym once as well. So many fun activities and classes to attend. Overall our vacation was a 10/10

The hotel grounds were very nice, common areas likes pools were in good condition and well organized. Evening entertainment was good, although not really my thing. Food at the buffets was good, what you would expect from any buffet. Lots to choose from. The "a la cartes" I thought were lacking. I went to 3 of the 4 on site and only enjoyed one of them. Of that one, many others in our party did not enjoy their meals. My favorite place at the resort was the coffee bar, although it was frequently understaffed during busy periods. Same could be said about the bars in the common areas. Many complaints about understaffing and wait times.

This hotel caters to the circle members better than the other people even the ones paying for the reserve section which is costly. The hotel does not really know what gluten free means. Do not go if Gluten sensitive. One chief at the same restaurant will prepare a gluten free pasta while at the same restaurant on another night and another chief the guest is told that it is not possible to prepare the gluten free pasta. Guest was celebrating birthday (visited April 13-22/26) and got a chocolate bar with a Christmas tree decoration on it! Christmas was 4 months before arrival! Bars - some would give the reserve guests premium alcohol while other bars would not. No consistency. Beach beds - a large amount are old and are sinking in the middle. Beach is beautiful as well as clear sandy bottom. Most staff are happy and gracious to be there. For the same price point as the reserve at Paradisus Palma Real a person could go to the W Punta Cana or the Excellence properties and get better gourmet style food and better gluten free options.

The hotel was very nice. The rooms were nice the people were nice but when we had to stand in line to book the à la carts is was awful. By time I got to the front everything was almost gone. The bartenders were very nice but not enough of them working we waited half hour for drinks was terrible. The coffe bar was really nice but again one person working they need more people working. We had to wait in line for the buffet and the food honestly was not great. We enjoyed the Japanese. Over all I would not go back. The pool beach drinks were all great the music was great they should have music at the pool, which they never did

Beautiful grounds, service for the LEVEL customers not worth the extra money! The LEVEL concierge weren't helpful at all! Went to their desk three times the first three days to ask for simple things and nothing was never accomplished! The rooms were not as pictured, not clean dirt on your floor smelled very musty! Had to ask to refill fridges, washcloths, and when we arrived, we were put in double beds and one of the beds were dirty!

Large resort, pools were nice and very large. Beach was beautiful. Rooms can use some updating. Buffets where average and booking alacart restaurants was not easy. We had a large party for a wedding and most couples received rooms with 2 double beds. My nephew who is handicapped was located on a second floor when a ground room was requested. Service at bars for drinks was slow and under staffed.

The resort was large with many amenities. Large clean rooms, several pools and bars as well. We loved the great choices of restaurants from buffet to fancy a la cartes! Yoga classes, games by the pool, dance classes and a water park for entertainment. In the evening there were theme nights, a white party, Dominican night, etc

Our stay at Meliá Caribe Beach Resort had some highlights, but unfortunately, the overall experience was disappointing, especially given that we were part of a large group booking of around 65 people. On a positive note, our room was clean and met our expectations. However, it quickly became clear that we were among the very few who had that experience. The majority of our groups rooms were not as described or suitable for the families staying in them. A particularly concerning situation involved my sister, who was traveling with a family of five. She was given a room with one king bed and a broken pull-out couch. When she initially raised the issue, she was told there was nothing that could be done. It wasn’t until the air conditioning in her room stopped working and her toddler became sick from the heat that the resort finally moved her to another room, and only upgraded her near the very end of the trip. That level of response was frustrating and unacceptable. Cleanliness across the resort also left much to be desired. The Level pool, in particular, frequently had visible scum, which made it unappealing to use. The food itself was delicious, but the experience was inconsistent. If you didn’t arrive right when meals began, options became very limited and the food was often cold. We were attending a wedding, and unfortunately, several commitments made to the bride were not honored. The wedding dinner was supposed to be held in a reserved area, but when the group arrived, it was occupied by another party celebrating a birthday. As a result, our group was split up and seated in multiple areas, which took away from what should have been a special, shared experience. Additionally, the bride and groom did not receive the honeymoon suite they were promised. The evening shows were also difficult to enjoy, as they were held in a small corner of the lobby with limited visibility and space. Overall, if it weren’t for the time spent with family, this would have been a very disappointing vacation. There is definitely potential here, but the resort needs significant improvements in organization, communication, cleanliness, and customer service, especially when handling large group bookings.

There was nice aspects of this resort but our room was a bit dated and couch uncomfortable. We did get good service for the most part. Our mini bar person was great and attentive. Enjoyed seeing the peacock on site. The shows were good

This was our first time staying at Melia,10 days. We upgraded to The Level Suite Tropical Palms. The room itself was a bit smaller than expected, but the cleaning staff did a great job keeping everything spotless. The resort and the grounds were stunning—well kept and beautifully maintained—and the sargassum was cleaned off the beach daily. It’s well worth upgrading to The Level, if only for access to The Quimera Bar, Restaurant, and Rooftop Bar. We had most of our breakfasts there and enjoyed lunch and dinner twice each. The staff were always very friendly and eager to help in any way they could. Albania Casimir, the hostess at Quimera during breakfast and lunch, was especially welcoming and even helped me learn a few words in Spanish. Most mornings, Moises Sanchez was our waiter—he always had a smile and entertained us with his great bird calls! Adriana Baez was the standout bartender; her drinks were always perfect, and she quickly learned our preferences. There was another bartender working with Adriana who was equally excellent, though unfortunately I didn’t catch her name. Our go-to spot for after-dinner drinks was the Rooftop Bar. It offers a beautiful view of the beach and pool, and it’s especially gorgeous at night. The top-shelf drink selection was somewhat limited, but the live entertainment made up for it. Karaoke nights were a lot of fun, and Yadenni Rubio brought amazing energy and did a great job engaging guests and encouraging participation. She also coordinated some of the activities I joined (coffee tasting and mud therapy), and she did an excellent job. We also tried the Vietnamese restaurant and were somewhat disappointed. My husband ordered rice with shrimp and calamari but received 1 shrimp and very little calamari, although the flavour was good. Overall, we found the restaurant options somewhat limited, and the buffet tended to taste the same regardless of the cuisine theme. My one complaint would be the poor service we received at The Level reception. Upon arrival we were handed an envelope with a resort map and nothing more—no directions on where the restaurants were or which section of the beach we could use. When we tried to book our complimentary massage session, one staff member couldn’t reach the spa by phone, sent a group text instead, and said he would email me when he received a response. I never heard back. We eventually booked a massage session with a gentleman on the beach who was taking reservations. Later, we went back to The Level reception to try to reschedule our appointment for the following day. The staff member assisting us again couldn’t reach the spa, sent another group text, and asked us to wait in the lounge. After waiting half an hour, we went to check back and he was nowhere to be seen—so we eventually just left. Overall, we had a great time and met some wonderful people. The entertainment crew were outstanding, and the property itself is absolutely gorgeous. Would I go back? I’m not entirely sure. We’ve stayed at many five-star resorts and know what to expect, and the lack of attention from The Level staff was somewhat disappointing—especially considering that’s what we were paying for.

Our stay at this all-inclusive resort was overall a really enjoyable experience. The property itself is spacious and beautifully designed. At the center, there’s a stunning open-air area with a glass roof, filled with lush plants that give the whole resort a tropical, relaxing atmosphere. There are plenty of seating and lounging areas throughout, making it easy to find a quiet spot to unwind. The food was a highlight. With around 6–7 different restaurants offering a variety of cuisines, there’s something for everyone. The buffet, in particular, has a huge selection of dishes. While some options are more on the generic side, the overall quality is good and there’s enough variety to keep meals interesting throughout the stay. The beach area is spacious and well-maintained, with lots of lounge chairs available, so finding a spot was never an issue. The swimming pools are also large, clean, and perfect for relaxing or cooling off during the day. There were a couple of minor drawbacks. On the day we arrived, check-in took longer than expected—about 1.5 hours—due to a new administrative system and concierge team. Also, because the resort is so large, room service can be a bit slow at times. That said, the staff were generally helpful and the service overall was still good. The resort offers a lively atmosphere with events and activities scheduled throughout the week. One evening featured live music in the main lobby area until around 10 PM, which added to the energy, though it might be a bit loud for families with young children who have earlier bedtimes. Rooms were clean, tidy, and well-maintained, with daily housekeeping that kept everything in great condition. All in all, this is a beautiful, vibrant resort with great amenities, solid dining options, and a fun atmosphere. Despite a few small inconveniences, we had a really positive experience and would definitely consider returning.

From the private transfer to the time we arrived wow. From check In to check out amazing. Check In was easy as it was not busy when we arrived Yahoo lol. Bags went on the golf cart and away we went to our room. The concierge took us to the room and the bags followed shortly after. The room was amazing clean and didn’t smell mouldy at all. Next morning was a walk around to get familiar with the resort the it was smooth sailing from there. Beach was beautiful drinks were amazing great selection. As for the food well I must say it was top notch. We ate at the buffet and the alacarts once we figured out the reservation tablet it was easy. The service was amazing and the staff amazing at the buffet jimbert well he made our mornings wonderful always watching everyone around and on top of his game. Adult pool bar Ari’s well she made our week as well always happy and friendly there is no other words to explain it. Thank you trip central for another amazing trip.

Visited Melia Punta Cana 30th March - 6th April 2026 Airport- luggage got broken into in Punta Cana Airport upon arrival & departure-stolen items by baggage handlers(Do not put anything valuable in suitcase-infact try and not take checked luggage at all) Food- Not 5 Star. Minimul restaurant options, food was only warm most days. Variety very repetative in buffet, Service in Mediterranean extreemly slow, waited 60 minutes to get a starter & 2 hours for whole meal. For a wellness hotel, they are allowing smoking in restautrants-not acceptable in my view. Noise polution on beach by boats just offshore. Considering they have signs indicating no speakers by the sunbeds, lot of loud music coming from there. Staff- extreemly miserable all the time. Spoil the atmostphere of the holiday. Seems that unless to tip heavily, expect very slow service. Minibar in room. Only water, pop & 2 beers Grounds- Beautiful (Best part of the hotel) Entertainment-hit & miss Pool-very good size. Beach bar- more like a shed, not a beach bar Beach- lots of seaweed, consistant flow of beach sellers, sea a bit rough outside hotel Overall, this is not a 5star hotel as indicated, more 3.5 in my opinion. Considering we paid over $5800 for a 7 night trip, I would say save your money and go to Jamaica. We will not be returning to The Dominican Republic or this hotel anytime soon.

Lovely naturally landscaped grounds with many pools and activities for our grandchildren who travelled on a different package. While we concerned at checkin that our different package meant that we couldnt have our meals together, everything worked out well in the end as we did not need the Family Concierge services. Westjet was more problematic, particularly the long waits for luggage and checkin at Cancun airport.

Our flight arrived late and as a result, we did not get to the resort until after midnight. Upon arrival, we were informed that they did not have our room available, but that they would put us up in a "better" room for the night and we would just have to switch rooms the next day, which was fine - we were booked in a swim-up room and were given a large 2 bedroom swim-up room for the 1 night. We were hungry and tired and were told that we could order room service, as they would deliver until 2 am. We ordered room service as soon as we arrived in our temporary room. They told us it would be 30-45 minutes. We waited until 2 am and the food never arrived. We ate the peanuts from the mini bar and went to sleep. Just before 7 a.m. I was awoken by a very loud noise. I got out of bed, opened the patio door and the plaster/drywall from the balcony above had collapsed onto our veranda/outdoor space. I presume from a leaky outdoor jacuzzi? I took a video and showed our concierge. I'm just glad we weren't outside when it happened. We were told to pack our luggage and they would bring it over to our room when it was ready at 3 pm. We went to the front desk at 3 pm to have our bracelets reprogrammed for our new room. We arrived to our room and our luggage wasn't there. It was located sometime later and brought to our room. My daughter quickly realized that her bathing suit wasn't in her suitcase, that we had left it hanging to dry in the closet of the other room. We contacted our concierge and he said he would take care of it. Later on that evening, my daughter became increasingly concerned so we went back to the front desk and Natalie offered to take us to the other room to retrieve it, as the room could not be occupied due to the ceiling collapse. When we arrived, the room had been cleaned and the bathing suit was gone. Natalie followed up with housekeeping as did our "concierge" Yunior, but they claimed they did not have it. I have no complaints about the food, or the people at the front desk. Big shout outs to Natalie and Juan at the front desk, as well as all of the staff at Tacorini and Nokyo, and the staff that brought the floating breakfast to our room. They were amazing. Housekeeping was terrible, not just because of the theft, but their inability to do the basics (ie they took our dirty towels and just refolded them, did not clean anything, did not replenish coffee, etc.) and yes, I tipped $5-$10 per day in the hope that it would get better. It never did. Service in some areas is great, but is also terribly lacking in others. I can't recommend this hotel, nor will I be back but I'm giving it 3 stars because there are some amazing staff members there who deserve some recognition. I wish we had a better overall experience

Grounds, pools, and beach is beautiful. Waterpark was a blast for kids. The rooms were very outdated and lacking basic service. Resort seemed very under staffed, poor housekeeping, poor service at all meals, far from 5 stars.

I have been to many all-inclusive resorts over the years but this was my best experience by far. The resort is new, modern and beautiful. There are a lot of pools and a lot of variety of things to do, whether you're looking to party or just relax. The beach is amazing, lots of loungers with excellent thatch shades if you want to stay out of the sun. The beach also had a fantastic dedicated margarita bar. The food was excellent both at the buffet and the booked restaurants. There are a lot of omelet stations for breakfast which is nice. We liked the Kanna outdoor restaurant for lunch as well. None of our party got the dreaded TD. We took a golf cart to the Casino, it is located at the adjacent sister resort, and we had a fabulous time there. The night-time entertainment was great in the main lobby area, as was the late night sports bar. Overall an excellent vacation and would highly recommend this resort!

We are a family of 3, one being a 15yr old and we all said we would be back. The grounds are beautifully, tranquil and well kept only negative is the stamped concrete cobblestone walkways. They are not luggage/stroller or handicap friendly and should you be barefoot, look out as it is slippery when wet and hot when dry. Unfortunately, the check in experience was not good. When we arrived, we were told we were going to be placed in a temporary room for 1 night in bldg. 25 which is for hotel members!! I was furious as we booked this vacation 3 months in advance, and their excuse was the hotel was full. I said you have known I'm coming for 3 months; I should have a room ready for me that I booked and not have to be moved the next day, wasting precious time of my limited 7 day stay. So be aware there is something shady like overbooking. The rooms are dated, but very clean no issues. One big complaint is the Theater music every night from 11 to midnight. We found it hard to get to sleep as you could hear the base thumping all the way down to the Tropical area which is the other side of the Mangroves. We spent an equal amount of time at both the pool and beach. -Lovely large pool, never crowded with lots of lounge chairs. -Absolutely stunning beach with lots of lounge chairs under grass beach umbrellas. Of course, no resort is complete without the dining experience. I have to say we were always able to find something at the buffets that we enjoyed. At the buffets some (not all) of the staff were not very attentive/friendly. We only went to 2 of the A La Carte restaurants and had a lovely meal and the staff were very top notch. One last note, we had late flight and check out is noon. So, the Melia provides ONLY 1 Courtesy room for all their guests with a shower. Which needs to booked in advance allowing you a 30 Min slot regardless of how many people are in your room. We were 3 people with a 30 min challenge for all to shower and change. I have been to many all-inclusive resorts that provided a big area with 4 to 6 showers with no time limit and no booking in advance requirement. Needless to say, I'm very disappointed with Melia and is an area they need to improve.

We stayed at Melia Punta Cana Beach (adults only) from March 10-16th, 2026. Here is my honest review of the resort (I have stayed in at least 5 other resorts in the last 10 years and have never had an experience like this): The resort grounds are breathtaking. The landscaping has been thoughtfully designed and well-maintained. The beach area and ocean are beautiful. One of the best beaches I have had the pleasure of swimming in. The service was not that of a so-called 5 star resort; The staff spoke Spanish (I do understand this is their first language), and only in English (most times, reluctantly) if we asked them to. This I found very odd since they serve international travelers. It made us feel unwelcome. The cleaning personnel and maintenance staff did not speak any English at all, which made it difficult when making special room requests, such as changing our sheets (which we asked and did not get completed). I left a tip and note for the cleaning staff to change our sheets, and when we returned to the room, the note and cash were gone, and our room had not been cleaned. Upon further investigation, it turns out that the maintenance staff stocks the mini bar. We suspect they attended to our room first, stole the tip and advised the cleaning lady that we did not need room service. I was flabbergasted that this took place. 2 days in a row our room was not cleaned. Our room A/C would not blow less than 22 degrees, which was somewhat confirmable but would have preferred to have the option to set it to 20 to escape the heat outdoors. We had a maintenance person look at it, shrug his shoulders and leave. Dining: The breakfast and lunch buffet was a 5 out of 10 (and that's a stretch). The food was very low-quality. There were lots of options, but because of the quality, we ate omelets most mornings as they were the only thing that was sub-par. The buffet staff was very inconsistent with service. Sometimes, we would be seated, other times we had to seat ourselves. We had to take cutlery and napkins from other tables, as the staff did not keep up with replenishing the tables. It often took over 5 minutes for drink orders. Our plates were not cleared in a timely manner. The lunch offering was also disappointing and often completely depleted and not replenished before its 3 o'clock closure. Dinner (A La Carte) options were Asian (Muoi), Mediterranean (Mar-de-Sal), and BBQ (Yumai). The Asian restaurant was a 6/10, and the Mediterranean restaurant was an 8/10. We never got to eat at Yumai, as we were told the BBQ restaurant was completely booked all week, which we found odd as we were also told you could only book them 2 days in advance. Again, inconsistent service and communication from the staff. We were often made to feel like we were inconveniencing the workers if we had special requests. They were less than happy to help. The staff who book the a la carte restaurants (at the buffet) were unreasonably rude and impatient. We were pressured into upgrading to "Level" which had greater restaurant access and other perks. It was $800 per person. We quickly learned that if you are not a "Level" guest, you will be given sub-par service. It was a huge turn off for people like us who had already spent thousands of dollars to be there. The front desk staff were the most helpful but still not impressive. The language barrier was a struggle to manage as again; they spoke Spanish mainly and only English when asked. A helpful guest once had to translate for us. We booked a shuttle to the lobby for our flight and had to call when it did not arrive at our scheduled time. There are major communication issues among their teams. Asked the "Guest Services" agent to make a local call for us to confirm our flight shuttle. She dialed a number and shrugged her shoulders: "sorry no answer". Only after we pressed her, did she go to the front desk and miraculously found a number in which someone answered. Wild that this resort did not seem to a main point of contact for the tour companies who shuttle guests to and from their properties. I returned from this resort with sand mite bites all over my feet and legs that were diabolically itchy. I had to be prescribed a BTC antihistamine to reduce the severity. The Disco (nightclub named Muse) was amazing. The bartenders were friendly and spoke great English. The DJ's played great music, and the overall vibe was good. We spent three evenings there. The shows were a letdown. The resort does not have a theatre (on the adults only side) so the shows were performed at the lobby bar, in which there was minimal seating and not designed for a crowd. The reviews about the pool and beach chairs are accurate. Impossible to get a chair at either spot after 10am. The staff does not impose the 30-minute rule, although it is clearly stated both at the beach and the pool. What we did enjoy about the beach is that personal speakers were not allowed. If you're seeking peace and quiet, I would not recommend this resort. Our room faced adjacent construction and all we heard all week were beeping horns, loud machinery and trucks from sunup to sundown. Music was played all day at the pool and the beach, and constant music playing at the lobby and other common areas. Nowhere could you go on this property to hear nothing. The property is so big, it was not feasible to walk everywhere (it was a good 15-minute walk from the lobby to the beach/buffet). You had to shuttle to the beach, buffet, lobby, etc. Although we didn't mind, oftentimes the shuttles were disorganized. Sometimes waiting up to 10 minutes to be picked up. Again, "Level" guests got better shuttle service. Overall, I would give this resort a 5/10. I will not be returning to any Melia property in the future. Buyer beware.

We had the level wellness package, and it was so worth it. The food was great, cocktails were good, butler was amazing, food/drink service was decent but I’ve had better, massages were excellent, facility was beautiful. Could have used more music by the pool. Still had an awesome experience!

The resort was beautiful and well maintained. We were in the adults only reserve swim up room and those extras were appreciated. We enjoyed the VIP pool and swim up bar as well as the elite restaurant. We did not spend much time at the beach as there was a seaweed issue but they were doing all they could to try to keep it under control.

Beautiful resort! Food was mediocre. Did not appreciate having to pay extra for the good food. Wasn’t this supposed to be all inclusive resort? Inconsistent service in restaurants. Royal Hideaway next year, more expensive but far better food and a better beach.

We stayed at this hotel in 2025 and had loved it so much went again this year. We stayed in the same room style and were Level and stayed in Level Grand Suite room. The hotel grounds were beautiful, rooms are nice and the resort in general is very clean and well kept. We found all staff, except for the Level Lounge, to be friendly and helpful. Check in was an extremely long wait and process as there was just no urgency by any of them and we were the only waiting couple to check in. They made changes to the Level since last year that were not clearly advertised and were disappointing. This may be because we booked in 2025 and they decided to implement changes in 2026…uncertain. But the changes were not communicated to us until check in. The Level Lounge concierge was pretty much non existent. Could no longer make reservations there and had to line up between certain hours at certain spots. The Level restaurants no longer had al la carte and were only buffet. All restaurants have good food, with the exception of the Italian. Both meals there were bad….the last one we couldn’t even eat. It was a mushy pasta ball. Pool chairs at the level pool….we never reserved one with a towel and were able to get one most days, although a few days it was difficult and had to drag from different spots. The main pool by the beach…no way you were getting a chair unless you got up in the middle of the night. The biggest disappointment was the status of glasses at all bars. There was no organization or systems for glasses and they were always scrambling to find a glass for a drink. Sometimes you got a martini in a paper cup or a low ball glass and sometimes you got a beer in an extra large wine glass or a glass mason jar at the pool bar….doesn't matter what room or package you book, you should get a proper glass/cup. They need a better glass system. We went to the beach once, but found that the pool and beach area was too busy, and there was never an opportunity to get a chair so we just ended up walking the beach. Overall, we would go back there and we would go Level, despite the changes, for these reasons..the lobby, the grounds, the room, the Level pool (the big pool at the beach is just packed and a free for all), the Level Buffet, again, so your not in the craziness of the main buffet, and the room service. There’s no fee for Level, so we enjoyed coffee and fruit and pastries every morning on our balcony over looking the garden view. Can’t beat that. If further changes are made to the Level, then for the price we would look elsewhere and probably go adult only.

There was a lot of good at Paradisus La Perla. The food was very good and the service from the staff at the pool and in the public areas was really attentive. They were friendly and definitely the highlight of the stay for our group of four. The downside is that this is sold as an adult resort, but you have to walk through the kids' section to get to most of the restaurants. The evening entertainment was lacking and there are no real places to hang out at night. The bars just felt like waiting areas for the restaurants rather than somewhere with a cool ambience. For two couples, it was boring in the evenings. The booking system for dinner is also a mess. The office is only open a few hours a day and they limit how many reservations you can make, so you have to keep coming back and queuing up just to talk to someone who eventually tries to sell you a timeshare. The app didn't work well either.

The beach was amazing the rooms were very nice and clean the staff were very friendly. The grounds were beautiful and kept very clean. It would be nice to have a few more restaurants. The pool was really nice but a bit cool at first.

The Paradisus La Perla was an amazing resort! Such a high-end beautiful and luxurious resort, with such an incredible tropical nature feel. The beach is scrumptious! The food is gourmet (including amazing gluten free options expertise and care) and very high quality. The best part is the staff; they go way above and beyond to ensure you are enjoying your stay. We will be doing a more detailed review on a couple of other platforms, but in one line, this place knocked it out of the park! Kudos to all of the amazing staff. A pristine hotel/resort with well manicured grounds, friendly and helpful staff from the personal concierge to the housekeeping team. Excellent food and wait staff in the buffet and all other restaurants. Numerous food choices - delicious and presented very well. Rooms are well appointed and the swim out was an added luxury. Nightly entertainment offered different genres for every taste. Reserve pool was nice and quiet while main pool was more lively. Walked the beach every day and swam in the ocean - white powdery sand and crystal clear waters . Some pockets of sargassum here and there but hotel maintenance team were on top of it. Gym is well equipped.

Aldo Rodriguez: Aldo is one of the drivers that will shuttle you from one end of the resort to the other. He truly is one of the best ambassadors this resort could ever wish to have. My mornings would usually start with an early morning shuttle ride to the coffee shop and I always enjoyed my conversations with Aldo.......what a nice way to start my day. Albania Casimir: is the hostess at the Quimera Restaurant. We always looked forward to our breakfast and lunches for she would always be there to greet us with her friendly smile and a warm “Hola mi amore”. She would always come over to our table to make sure we had everything we needed. Miguel Linares: Miguel always made time to come over to our table no matter how busy he was, he would come over to check in and make sure all was well. Gracias Miguel. Euris: Euris worked at the Quimera Restaurant and was a true gentleman. He always ensured that you were happy with your meal and if we needed anything. There are many reasons that make one want to keep returning to the same resort year after year however the above mentioned individuals are a “big” reason why my wife and I will definitely be returning next year to the Melia Punta Cana Wellness and Beach Resort. We’ve been to Punta Cana well over a dozen times and this Resort is mediocre! The grounds are mature and lush due to its age but the resort itself is getting dated and worn. Only 2 a La cart restaurants to choose from and they do book up fast. The Buffet was good but not spectacular. Units are relatively clean and comfortable. Poolside and beach loungers are taken by 7am so reserve your spot asap every morning. All in all, it’s an ok place but there are other resorts (Lopesun and Princess) I would pick before this one

We stayed at the Melia Punta Cana for 7 days. We had a red eye flight with WJ from Calgary to Punta Cana as not many options from western Canada. The resort would not check us in until 4:00pm after travelling all night with no food on the plane. Very disappointed with that as last trip we took they gave us a room in the morning. The room we booked was supposed to be a superior room but instead they booked us a room along the back where the constant noise of the gulf carts happens. The room was small and everything looked old and tired. We went to explain that this will not work for us so we had to wait for another room until 4:00pm to get a room that had the patio along the back with very loud construction for our entire stay. Food was very good. Very poor beach service to bring drinks we had to get this ourselves. Cleanliness was ok not great Check in was a slow nightmare. Beach had more algae that wasn’t cleaned up this trip. Overall we enjoyed the food and beauty of DR but the check in process and room were a disappointment.

Can’t say enough about this beautiful resort. We stayed in the reserve section adults only and were amazed by the rooms and the care given to being looked after. The an la cartes were great and especially liked that we had our own restaurant in the reserve section.Our concierge Wolfgang was Amazing and looked after us to the max. Would definitely stay there again.

The hotel manager Juan was superb. Very attentive and engaged. The concierge staff Jamie was also top notch. We could not have asked for a better stay thanks to both of them in particular. Very clean and upscale resort with delicious food and gorgeous beach!

The grounds are absolutely stunning. The property, rooms, pools, and common areas are spotless and beautifully detailed. The food in Quimera and the A La Carte Restaurants is excellent. The buffet food is adequate. The shows are fabulous. The bars and drinks are superb! The staff is extremely kind and always willing to help. We foud a difference in check-in service because of the lack of butlers and concierges cannot do all that the past check-in staff plus butlers used to do. They need to bring back the Butlers. We still enjoyed the resort very much!

It was our first time at Melia and it is a wonderful resort. The location is perfect, you are about half way between downtown PV (to the south) and Bucerias / Punta Mita / Sayulita (to the north). It's ocean front is perfect, and just behind it you have the bustling Marina. The food was great, Especially at the restaurants you have to make reservations for. There were no lineups, not crowded at all. Love the pool! It has zero entry almost all the way round. We went with our young kids and the bunkbeds were a wonderful touch.

I will start this review with the fact that our primary reason for travelling was for the golf experience and it was excellent. The shuttle back and forth to the Cocotal was always on time and the driver was helpful. As for the resort itself we spent the extra money for The Level experience but this was disappointing. From our check in which took far too long and the fact that we had to carry our own bags and golf clubs to our room after travelling for 12 hours would be deemed unacceptable. We relied on our concierge in The Level to confirm our bookings for our a la carte restaurants and they failed to do so whereby on 3 occasions when we arrived at our restaurant they had no booking for us. The commute from the lobby to the Level section was quite far and the wait for a trolly took surprisingly long. On several occasions we walked instead of waiting... The only perk of the Level was the rooftop bar where the staff was amazing and the drinks equally so. As for our room, we had to have our phone fixed, our safe did not work, and we had to request both water and coffee pods as they failed to replenish them. Sadly we paid for Level service but did not get it... The beach was lovely, the food was ok, the pool for the Level guests was small but served its purpose. We have stayed at many Melia properties and this was our most disappointing experience. We will not be returning to this property. Thank you to the wonderful rooftop staff that were so accommodating and lovely. The golf and they were our highlights.

Zel Punta Cana was exactly what we were looking for. It's a smaller resort with beautiful grounds and pools everywhere. The suites are amazing, we were in a ground floor master suite which had an indoor and an outdoor jacuzzi, our own yard with sun loungers and a palapa and a lovely outdoor sitting area under the roof. The interior was spacious with a king bed, full size dining table, living room and lovely bathroom. It was always easy to book one of the restaurants for the evening. Service was fast and very courteous. The steakhouse was our favorite but we enjoyed the Asian as well. The buffet was small with a good selection of food but the temperature of the food was not consistent. The pizza place just outside the buffet was also nice, they will make a pizza to order or you can choose from the selection they have pre-made. Even though the resort is not on the beach there are frequent shuttles to take you there. We never had trouble getting a lounger and the food at the beach restaurant was good. Drinks throughout the resort were well done and not watered down like many places. There are palapas and loungers all around the pools so it was never a problem finding a place to unwind and relax. The resort doesn't have a traditional front desk so there can be issues changing money into smaller bills for tips. Make sure to bring lots of small bills with you to tip this fantastic staff. over all we really enjoyed our week and would return.

Positives: This hotel is beautiful and the property is extremely well cared for. The staff is very friendly and we had an amazing time here. We upgraded to La Perla with a swim out but because of the time of year it was very cold and the hotel accommodated our request to ditch the swim out for a regular adults side room. The playa del carmen side was beautiful and seemed like a great time but we really enjoyed our time at the adults side and the reserve package was worth every dollar. We stayed majority of the time on the reserve and enjoyed the access to the special areas such as the restaurant and the private beach access. We also used the spa services at an additional cost and it was worth every dollar. Negatives: The food was great for breakfast and lunch but aside from the hibachi we found the food lacking for dinner. The reservations were easy enough to make but the food itself for dinner in our opinion was 5/10. You could for sure find something at the buffet but we were not very impressed overall at dinner. Another reason for lack of points is because of the steakhouse. The steakhouse is not included with the all inclusive and so you have to pay for everything at that restaurant. It was very annoying because dinner options were already not so great and it felt like a money grab to have to pay for the steak house. It would have been ok if it was apart of the all inclusive but had menu items for sale , however that was not the case. Overall the hotel was beautiful, the beach was lovely, the food was good enough, the rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff were incredible. The vibe was quiet with small bursts of excitement and a slightly older crowd on the adults side. We would for sure go again.

Getting a pool chair was like hunger games. Getting a beach chair was a little easier. Good value overall for the price.

We stayed in the level and enjoyed the access we had to the restaurants and the private beach. Food itself was amazing - even at the buffet - huge selection! And make sure to enjoy the "waters' at the spa - even if you do not have a treatment. Although the beach itself is beautiful there is so much seaweed that walking along the shore is not so pleasant and you cannot go swimming. The pools looked pretty though we are beach people so never sat there. And yes everybody still does the save the chair with your towel game which is so annoying. Also, from the beach area to the main lobby and activity zone is a good 10 minute walk - so be prepared for that. They do have golf carts though but sometimes you have to wait a while. Bring small bills for tips.

Fantastic hotel in an amazing location – the perfect mix of city and beach! Everything is spotless and beautifully maintained. The beach is gorgeous with soft white sand and a lovely sandy bottom in the sea. Service throughout the resort is excellent, and the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. The only area that could use a bit of improvement is the food. The buffet offers international cuisine, but we sometimes struggled to find really tasty options. On the bright side, the bar and grill by the main pool completely makes up for it – fresh, delicious food and absolutely wonderful staff! The drinks are always fresh, and the cocktails are strong enough to satisfy even the pickiest guest. Room service is exceptional, with cleaning available twice a day if you want it. The minibar is generously stocked with a great variety of drinks, which was a nice touch. Overall, we’ve found another great place we’ll happily return to again and again in the future!

Just as described by my travel agent, Nicolle Kirk, it’s a fully renovated, luxury hotel. We loved our stay here and zero disappointments. Happy we booked the concierge as it helped us to feel extra relaxed. Thanks!

After much waiting and excitement, this resort really did not meet our expectations. From the moment we arrived, the staff were largely unhelpful and disinterested in anything we asked. There was no tour of explanation of anything, even the location of the buffet. No activities were posted anywhere except for beside the buffet, and we were repeatedly told to “use the app” when we asked questions. The rooms are dirty and musty, the pillows stunk, though the maid gave the best service of all the staff. You will wait a very long time for drinks, even when you go to the bar yourself for them. The food was terrible - honestly, terrible. Overall, this is in no way a “wellness” resort, it is not luxury or five star. I would rate it 3.5 at best.

Hotel is absolutely beautiful but that is the only positive aspect the rest is just not acceptable. Very poor service from almost all staff with very few exceptions, same food at the buffet restaurant, uncomfortable beds, no orientation during very long process of check in and out. This hotel is a combination of adults and families with nothing stopping anyone to be wherever they want to be. The service is extremely slow at the bars, reception or pool restaurants. And weddings every day that will interfere with your restaurant reservations, ability to go to the beach, etc.

This is a lovely hotel with on a gorgeous stretch of beach and a very short drive from the Cozumel airport. The staff are incredibly courteous and professional. The property is small, yet has lots of amenities and fun activities to offer! We played mini-putt, target shooting with paint guns and participated in the water aerobics. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. The food was good and the restaurant service was tops! Even though the ocean in front of the property was a little murky with the sargassum, the snorkeling was outstanding just beyond the breaker wall at the edge of the property. A special thank you to Jorge, Adrian and Veronica who were always at the ready with a smile and meal service that went above and beyond. Circe was extremely helpful with reservations for bali beds and beach loungers too - many thanks :) and finally Alfonso our butler welcomed us and made sure we had everything we could want during our stay. I wouldn't hesitate to return!

Our stay at this hotel was a mixed experience. Check-in was very slow, which was frustrating after traveling. The original room we were given had multiple issues: the air conditioning did not work, and both the safe and mini fridge were broken. The manager was helpful and arranged a new room, which we appreciated, but the process took about two hours. Our daughter and son-in-law also had problems with their family room—it was missing a bed and had not been properly cleaned upon arrival. On a positive note, the kids’ activities were excellent. The kids’ zone pool and waterslides were a highlight and very well enjoyed. The à la carte restaurants were decent and provided some nice dining options. One of the biggest drawbacks was the lack of beach towels, which were frequently unavailable. In addition, lounge chairs were often saved very early in the morning, making it difficult to find seating later in the day. Overall, while the resort has great amenities for kids, the service and room issues impacted our stay.

You won’t regret booking here. This is the place to go to forget real life and relax and unwind. Buffet was full of great choices. I felt so good all week. Pool and beach have lots of loungers. Would suggest going to claim a lounger when the sun comes up to get a perfect spot. Staff were great. Benjamin at the breakfast and lunch buffet in the Level area was so fun and kind. Such a friendly face to greet us. Every part of the Level is worth it. The only thing that wasn’t great was the clarity of the water at the beach I think just because it was so windy and churned up while I was there. The service at beach and pool is wonderful.

This is the nicest all inclusive resort we have been to, especially considering the price point. The food quality was top notch, and the service very friendly. The pool was very nice & clean. The water was a touch cold but more than tolerable. Lots of pool chairs & towels. The rooms are large & very nice with all amenities. The resort grounds are not too large and very well taken care of. My only somewhat negative comment is regarding the beach - was nice but small and very busy. Moderate seaweed but calm water and a safe buoyed off area. I will return !

We stayed in the level and therefore had access to the quieter area of the beach. Although as beautiful as the sand and water is, the shore and ocean is full of seaweed so swimming was not pleasant. All the food was great. Both at the buffers and the restaurants. Only one I would stay away from is Muoi as food was not good there.

The hotel grounds were lovely, room comfortable, very clean. What brought the rating down in my estimation was the food. Very little variety and not great quality. The restaurants were a disappointment. We have been to Mexico several times and this was by far the most disappointing when it came to food.

We have travelled to all inclusive resorts for over 25 years and some deliver what they advertise and some don’t. This resort did not live up to the criteria for which we booked back in May. The pictures don’t lie, the resort is stunningly beautiful but unfortunately that is where it ended. We booked on the same booking with another couple. When you book together on the same booking it is reasonable to expect we would be in the same building but no, they put us in opposite ends of The Level section (we booked The Level). So we said it was unacceptable so they found us a room in the same building as our friends. This took an hour and a half. Then when taken to the room, it was already occupied! So we had to wait again for another room. Then when we went to put our valuables in the safe, we needed a card which was not supplied at check in so we had to go back to the Concierge to get one. So check in was very disorganized. Having said that, we were happy with the new room but very tired and ticked off at this point. I might add that we expected a butler as other people got one but we did not. We were told to book the ala carte restaurants the next day at the Level Concierge but then the game started. No times available until 9pm! Really? Our friend then contacted the Concierge Manager and all of a sudden the ala carte restaurants had availability. The Muoi we loved, the Mar de Sal not so much. When we booked it showed Mediterranean and Italian but there is no longer Italian so the menu wasn’t what we liked. The Yumay…simply awful. Melia, take it away and put in an Italian Restaurant. The Level had very good food and service for dinner but for breakfast and lunch better reserve lots of time because the service was very slow. Melia, hire servers that speak English as we had several wrong orders due to the server not understanding what was ordered. The Serendipia buffet was one of the most disorganized and poor buffets we’ve seen in our travels. The towel game was extremely prevalent. Our friend had to get up at 4am to get a spot around the pool. There was no Security to control this. Most resorts will remove your saved items until 8am. The pool is a large pool but at no time in 10 days did we see it vacuumed. There was sand and dirt in it always. Hand Skimming helped a bit but not enough. The water level was below the skimmers so water could not circulate. This resort is advertised as a Wellness Resort. I can understand smoking on the public beach but around the pool and everywhere and cigars no less? Nowadays Resorts have designated smoking areas. Also the Melia Punta Cana’s website mentioned that The Level guests could eat at the ala carte restaurants at the neighbouring Melia Caribe but this is not true. Also pictures from tripadvisor showed Canadian Club rye whiskey which is what we drink and another reason why we chose this resort. But guess what? No CC. They advertise premium alcohol but when we asked they said that the alcohol they were serving was their (Dominican) premium. Also they were upselling what we in Canada consider premium alcohol. Having said all of this, because the weather was stellar and we did enjoy our 10 day vacation, however, we will never recommend or return to this resort.

This resort was out of this world...you name it all and it was 100/10. No complaints whatsoever about the services, resort, people, food, rooms, activities and the list goes on! By far the best resort I have been too in my life

Just back from a 10 day vacation at the beautiful Melia Adults Only, Beautiful property, lots of walking & quiet relaxing places outdoors. Really enjoyed all the activities they have daily Their fitness program is amazing. Beautiful gym, lots of aquafit in the pool, dance lessons, yoga even spinning. Maria & Jeramie do an amazing job with the activities. They make it so enjoyable and fun. There was lots of entertainment in the evening to enjoy & you are also welcome to walk over to the sister resort & take in their shows & casino as well. Our room was amazing , clean brighten & very spacious. We were in Villa #4 which was close to the back only a 4 min walk to the beach, pool & buffet area. Which is where all the day activities take place. When you need to go to the front of the resort you can walk about 15-20 depending on your pace ?or just take the cart they run every 12 mins ,you can also pick up the phone and call the bellboy and they will pick you up . The beach is beautiful white sand, which is wonderful on those extremely hot days it does not get hot in the feet. Lots of lounges to chose from, but best to do so early like everywhere else. Yes there is sea grass washing up daily but the resort is also cleaning it up daily so is not to bad. Lots of security on beach 24 hrs a day. Never had any problems with leaving our stuff on our lounges while swimming in ocean or pool. The pool is huge and beautiful, you are welcome to bring your small floating devices many ppl do. There is lots of seating around the pool and many chooses for sun & shade. Our food was amazing, lots of choices on the buffets. they are constantly filling up with fresh. The specialty restaurants are very enjoyable and are include in your stay you just have to book them ahead which was never a problem for us. Caribbean one is a great experience just a little rushed. Staff are very friendly, accommodating, & fun. They do work hard to keep the resort clean & everyone happy

The resort was satisfactory for what it was. The food was good and the a la carte restaurants were good (Vietnamese being the best by far). Be prepared to wake up by 6 am if you want a spot at the pool or beach to put your towels out. The grounds itself are beautiful but the resort is showing its wear. It’s a long walk from the front to the back and the road to walk has a lot of traffic. We did not like that part because the golf carts and work trucks drove way too fast. You felt like you were going to get run over walking to dinner. The spa was nice for massages but they do not offer an extensive list of services. Overall it was a good stay but this is not a luxury resort, more of a mid tier.

This hotel caters to families with small children ONLY. Although we knew it was not an "adults only" resort, we chose the "Level" option thinking it would give us some exclusive lounging and dining opportunities. WRONG!! Everyone took the option, including families of 5(majority). The property description implied a separate area on the beach for "Level" guests. Not so...there were a few labelled palapas interspersed within the rest of them. The "level" dining room was packed for breakfast and lunch everyday.You get a concierge assigned to you who arranges a reserved palapa for you..but again...not in a separate area. The hotel is very small with no auditorium or theater...so the children spend the evening hours running around screaming in the main lobby....cant have a nice peaceful after dinner drink. The buffet is an absolute nightmare..smallest I have ever seen. Very limited food selection. And, hold on to your plate...the kids are running around unleashed!! Also, don't expect a good steak in any of the a la cartes. They are tasteless..not char broiled, seem like they are boiled. Difficult to tell what kind of meat it was. One very disturbing issue is the lack of security on the beach. On weekends, the locals tend to head to the public beach which is directly adjacent to the hotel. This would be OK if hotel security was around to keep an eye on our stuff while in the water. Instead, locals walked freely amongst the hotel palapas and chairs. One hotel rep stood chatting with these folks for hours. I realize MOST of the locals are good people just enjoying the beach....but it would only take one bad apple to lead to disaster...especially with all the kids around. Overall, not a good experience...not a good choice unless you are traveling with infants and toddlers....teens would be bored. Finally, the room accommodation was a joke. One small 4 drawer dresser and small hanging bar. I dont know how all these families managed with little storage. No chair or couch to sit on. Housekeeping had a very hard time providing the same number of towels daily...something missing everyday. Wish I could get my money back.

Before anything, take note that we were booked as an all inclusive guests. This hotel is very clean and has a comfortable ambiance. The food is ok compare to the all inclusive resorts in the South. In my personal opinion, this hotel can at least provide an a la carte section for all the all inclusive guests. I find it strange that there’s no hot beverage available during lunch and dinner when I always love to have my dessert with a cup of coffee. In this case, this is when an all inclusive guests should have a special place for a meal so that the hot beverage can be served with no complication of determining who has to pay and not for the hot beverage. The dining room I believe is huge enough to accommodate a separate section for the all inclusive guests this way desserts can be consume together with a cup of coffee or tea. I think having a microwave available in the dinning room is an excellent idea for I find the foods are bit not to a par temperature wise. I also noticed that all foods are in the side of being too greasy. I also noticed the time of service in the snack areas are not respected. We came a couple of times in the snack area 20 to 25 minutes before closing time but we were told that the kitchen is already close which I find not fair for we were hungry after our regular strolling out. I think these simple flaws can easily be changed and corrected. I also like to mention that the request of the client in the fish and meat grilling section in the dinning room should be accommodated easily. I asked that my meat be cooked more but what I got was a comment (from the cook) saying that it’s cooked already. If a customer want the meat or fish be left on the grill more then it should be until the client requested it to be given or put on the plate. I hope that my observations be taken in a positive ways. Staffs in every corner of this hotel are amazing, very polite, very helpful and everyone has positive vibes towards the guests. Yes I will recommend this hotel with our friends who will go in Torremolinos.

Beautiful beach, great service, good place to relax and recharge. Good wellness activities. Rarely waited more than a couple of minutes to be served at a bar or for seating at a restaurant. Overall, really good value for the money.

The grounds and beach were the best about this resort. It is a huge resort with the lobby and restaurants at front and beach and pools a cart ride away. We were located at the beach which was handy because chairs were taken by 730. Food was just okay. Service was good. One thing that really surprised me was the amount of smoking and vaping, young and old! Weather was great. Probably would not return, there are better in the DR.

Good healthy food that is flavourful and delicious. Steakhouse restaurant has good salmon, chicken and ribs. The room is very comfortable but there is a construction going on. It can be noisy. Massage at spa was absolutely wonderful thanks John.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Melia! The resort atmosphere, the staff — everything was just fantastic. Not one complaint from start to finish. The food was great, the entertainment was fun, and the weather couldn’t have been better. We went as a family and stayed in the Adults Only section — totally worth it. This trip truly set the bar for all our future vacations. Can’t wait to go back! Rating: ????? (5/5)

From the moment of check-in, the service and the ambiance was a precursor to a wonderful week. The room was clean and well outfitted, with a full mini fridge and a beautiful garden view. The water pressure was perfect and always had hot and/or cold water. There was always something to do, from macrame to yoga and as it was off season, getting a beach lounger was a breeze. There was residual sargassum, but that's the chance you take when travelling in September. The resort did have it removed from the beach and ocean netting in place to mitigate the volume. The grounds are beautiful and well kept and there were workers throughout keeping maintenance. The carts to take you to and from were frequent and excellent drivers for every jaunt! The buffet by the beach was my favourite - who doesn't love overlooking the ocean while enjoying a good meal and a libation! The dinner buffet offered many delicious options and the MUOI Asian restaurant was my favourite. Go for the ribs! Overall, I absolutely loved my stay here and would return in a heartbeat.

We stayed in this resort one week and we really enjoyed our stay there. Very convenient location , just steps from the beach and numerous restaurants and cafe. Big supermarket is also close by. Good evening shows. There is gym and spacious swimming pool.

My husband and I recently stayed at Paradisus La Perla, an adults-only, all-inclusive resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico. The resort is also dog-friendly, which was a fun surprise. This was our second trip to Mexico and our sixth time at an all-inclusive resort. While we enjoyed spending time together and appreciated certain aspects of the property, we left a little disappointed. The resort felt quieter than expected, with very few active activities taking place and noticeably low guest numbers. Adults-Only Meets Family-Friendly La Perla shares its property with the family-oriented Paradisus section. Guests staying on the family side do not have access to the adults-only restaurants, but as La Perla guests, we could move freely between both areas. Staff & Service The staff were a highlight of our stay. They were warm, welcoming, and able to communicate well in English. We never felt pressured to tip, although gratuities were appreciated. Service was efficient and detail-oriented. One of the little touches we loved was the wristband room key which was so much easier than carrying a key card or fob. Melia App We used it mainly to check activity schedules and restaurant information. Each restaurant also provided physical menus, which we often preferred. Our Room – Junior Suite with Pool/Nature View Our junior suite was spacious, spotless, and well-maintained. The air conditioning worked perfectly, water pressure was excellent, and all amenities were in good shape. The bathroom setup was impressive: • Two rainfall showers • Two additional shower heads • Double sinks • A two-person bathtub • A jacuzzi on the balcony The only drawback was the ongoing construction. We could hear drilling, hammering, and furniture being moved, and at times even smell fresh paint. We counted about 36–40 rooms being renovated during our stay. Animals If you love animals, this resort won’t disappoint. We spotted cats, raccoons, and coatis roaming the property daily. We enjoyed seeing them, but they weren’t shy at all, one coati even tried to tear into a guest’s bag left on a beach chair! The Beach The beach had some seaweed, and the water was slightly murky, though the staff worked hard to clear it. We didn’t swim much in the ocean but did take walks along the shore. From the beach, you can see parts of Playa del Carmen and marine docks bordering the property. Activities The activities schedule looked fantastic: water and beach volleyball, foam parties, soccer, yoga, dance lessons, guacamole-making, mixology, spin classes, HIIT, TRX, and more. Unfortunately, participation was very low. Most guests preferred relaxing at the pool bar. We waited for a spin class that never happened because the instructor didn’t show up, and later, beach volleyball was also a no-go. We mentioned this to the activities manager and expressed surprise, since staff usually lead activities even if no guests join. Toward the end of the week, we did notice staff trying harder to engage guests, but participation remained minimal. Pools The main pool connects to the swim-up suites. The water was warm, though we did notice more dead bugs in the swim-up sections. Gym The gym at La Perla is the largest we’ve seen at any resort. It was well-equipped with treadmills, ellipticals, free weights, weight machines, stationary bikes, yoga mats, and even boxing bags. It also had a spin studio, restrooms, towels, Lysol wipes, fresh fruit, and bottled water available. Dining Experiences We tried eight restaurants during our stay: • Naos – International buffet • Capella – Italian • Cielo – Mexican • Blue Agave – Mexican • Flora – Fusion • Tokimeku – Asian • Lemon Fish – Fusion • Fahrenheit – Poolside lunch Reservations (required for most restaurants except Naos and Fahrenheit) were made through the desk outside the lobby. The buffet at Naos was decent, though variety was limited. Among the à la carte restaurants, here’s how we ranked them based on wait time, service, food quality, and presentation: 1. Cielo > 2. Blue Agave > 3. Capella > 4. Lemon Fish > 5. Flora > 6. Tokimeku Drinks & Bars Bars across the resort were fairly similar in terms of selection. Our favorite was Toji, near Tokimeku, where the bartenders took time to craft fun, personalized drinks instead of just pouring the basics. Exclusive Clubs • The Reserve Club – An upgrade option for a more upscale experience at La Perla. • The Circle Club – A membership program with the Melia group. Coffee & Snacks The Nespresso Coffee Corner was a pleasant surprise, offering specialty coffee, pastries, donuts, cookies, cakes, and sandwiches. Lobby Vibes The lobby was grand and spacious, filled with comfortable couches and beds for lounging or waiting for the shuttle. It was air-conditioned and smelled wonderfully of lemongrass. Notes & Tips 1. We were extra careful with drinking water. The resort provided unlimited bottled water, but it was tricky to completely avoid ice or produce possibly rinsed in tap water. We took Dukoral before the trip and had no stomach issues. 2. There is no tennis court on the property. Final Thoughts Paradisus La Perla has many great features: friendly staff, spacious rooms, a fantastic gym, and some standout restaurants. However, the lack of energy around activities and the ongoing construction made the experience less vibrant than we hoped. Still, we enjoyed the time together and made the most of our week in Riviera Maya.

Clean. Good service. Modern design. Food was just ok. Way too many items on menus are for extra charge! Too many areas, pools, restaurants, are off limits for families. Nicer areas were for adults only. Beach completely off limits and no one told us this until we showed up!!! After many attempts with the staff to even organize a one day trip to a nicer area of the beach, we were denied. A sister resort had access to a clean beach, taking some of the guests there even for the day should have been done. At the very least we should have been told about the beach situation. This was a beach resort vacation with not beach!!!

The food is not so good the taste is salty, the pork meat is hard and the fish is not fresh, The staff are friendly and the cleaner is nice. The beach is not so clean as it’s full of seaweeds. The train should have more to accommodate the people that are waiting too long.

Thousand thanks to Ali from trip central who recommended this hotel and grab us the best deal. And he idd not stop there, he kept followinh up with us prior to travelling so we dont miss anythi g its hectic travelling with little ones. He went over and beyond got us the Air Transat kids club. From the moment we reach to the moment we left we did not feel anything missing. Everything was value for money. Travelling with kids age 4ys 11yrs and 12yrs. FAMILY Room was great the sofa bed, bunk bed and king bed, spacious as well as the bathroom. Food in restaurant was good, menu changes daily and it was the best option to the picky eaters.family pool was huge we did not feel crowded at all. Except to grab a chair by the pool early in the morning so you can have your spot for the day. Splash pad was nice had both for little and big kids. The snack shop by the splash was good if you want to grab a bite. Night entertainment was a blast Friday night beach party. And mini kids disco, magic show, circus every night was different theme. We did not feel bored at all sor the need to leave the hotel. Cherry on top there was turtle in the resort pond and peacock. My boys who are animal lovers was amazed. The kids club was very nice with activities throughout the day to keep the you g one entertain and parent a free time.

When we arrived we decided to upgrade to the Level. We were lucky we get a room in building 36 which was the closest to the beach. Only 1 minute to the beach and 30 seconds to the main pool. Food was okay but the restaurant Riviera was the best. People complain in the reviews over the long walks from the beach to the lobby but was only 12-13 minutes walk. But there were always the little trains or the golf carts In front of the beach were floating barriers that was holding 80-90% of the seaweed/sargassum but we still got the waves. So it was great to be in the ocean. Seen other beaches at Bavaro that were bad. The grounds are amazing and well kept. When upgrade to the Level you get a butler who also book your a la cart restaurants, access to a special pool and restaurant (Riviera) and premium drinks. Upgraded drinks and snacks in the fridge. The 15 minutes drive from the airport will take at least 30-45 minutes because of the terrible traffic.

Our trip central helper martine reid was so nice to deal with. I would recommend anyone using her for a family vacation or a couples vacation she was always available no matter what time of the day and updated me with the vacation prices

This was definitely the best spot I've visited in the Dominican Republic after going there about six times. The food was awesome, but the nighttime buffet got moved to a smaller beachside restaurant, and the food was cold with limited options. The hotel staff were super friendly.

We arrive April 18th 2025 for a full week. We are not picky at all, lets show the good and bad. The good: -we went away The bad: -AC broke, water flowing in the room in our closet, wet all the clothing -two of five became ill -only two buffet restaurants, the food is repetitive, simple things you need are not there, limited on supplies, bland. -your ala cart restaurants - limited guidance where to book and you can only book 2 days out, therefore you have to plan 3 days of going to the same place at 8AM to book. Mexican, Italian, Steakhouse are your choices. Steakhouse is the best option, the others are upsold -they are constantly upselling you Honestly, would not go back.

Very good , well kept and beautiful The staff are amazing and spoke very good English, the rooms were very clean and comfortable, the food was amazing and everything was great. Everything was walking distance from our room and to the various restaurants

Very clean, very comfortable,and great food! We had a master suite overlooking the pool so it got very noisy from noon to 5pm with the DJ and pool activities, but there is a 'Quiet Zone' with lounge chairs and cabanas (closer to the beach) that suited us well so just stayed there. Master suite was large with dining table for 6. TV in living room and bedroom which was nice. Balcony jacuzzi was appealing but took 30-45 min to fill up if you had the patience. I opted for the large in-suite bathtub more often. Wasn't thrilled about making reservations for dinner as the first few days most things were booked until 8-8:30pm but I was able to book 3 nights at a time so later in the week we were able to get 7-7:30pm no problem. Lots of variety and something for everyone on each menu. If you're not a RESERVE guest, your only option for breakfast is buffet (which is actually very good) or room service. If you are RESERVE you have another restaurant near the Quiet Zone that is open for breakfast and lunch. Several restaurants in the family resort next door (linked by a hallway) were definitely worth visiting. Shout out to Oliver our waiter in Flora's - best service we received. Totally attentive, funny and made the dinner experience that much better. Pool bar and restaurant were great, good food and fast service. We would definitely return to this resort, but have our room in a quieter location.

The experience at Paradisus La Perla was incredible. The staff were unbelievable (especially Johnny), the facility and amenities 5 stars! The ambiance and vibes were so high. You had a nice balance of tranquility and party during the day with the pool bar. Night time wasn't too chaotic which I loved. The south bar had some nice events, and it was a great place to socialize have a drink. Loved the kicks bar as well. The food... WOW! Incredible! From the buffet to the restaurants... just amazing. The beach was awesome and although lots of sea weed they did an amazing job to clean it up, but it was such a peaceful spot if you didn't want to be on the resort. The rooms were unbelievable! So clean! So beautiful! The staff also did a nice job cleaning it every single day. My only knock but it won't affect the rating was the entertainment bit. I thought that the entertainment was a little flat (not in terms of talent), but I wish there was some sort of stage just like at many of the resorts where there was a big focus on the entertainment. I think the south bar is great but it's a place of socializing and I felt that the entertainment was drowned out at times.

First of all I'd like to say this was the nicest resort we have ever been too. Our trip was not the best as on the third day my mother had a stroke in the pool, but that being said we enjoyed what we could. The staff was more than amazing with the situation at hand. Taking care of us, as well as my father, driving him to and from the hospital daily so he could visit during visiting hours. Every day making sure we had everything we needed, and always asking about her condition. Our concierge was amazing, again always there for us and making sure to show he cared about our situation. As well as all the staff that knew us, and what was going on. Aside from the situation, this resort was absolutely amazing. Rooms were very nice, food, including the buffet were the best at any resort we have been too. Entertainment was great at night with the shows being some of the best we've seen on a resort. The grounds were always clean, and workers constantly fixing or updating things. Overall, even with the medical issues of my mother, this was one of the best trips we've had due to the resort and staff. We will definitely be coming back as it quickly became our new favorite place. Thank you to everyone there for all the care they put in.

The people at the resort were very friendly and the food was excellent' She had also arranged for wheelchair assistance at the airport for my husband which ended up to be a blessing The unit was also Physically accessible with the walk in shower The resort was awesome and I would go again. Resort was very clean, felt very safe. The staff was friendly and efficient/accommodating. Enjoyed the fact that it was a non-smoking resort and there were designated areas for smoking. We had dinner at an à la carte every night. Would definitely visit there again in the future!

It started out with a gorgeous upgrade, welcoming staff and beautiful weather! Our vacation at Paradisus la Perla was top notch!! Food was 5/5 and the cleanliness of the resort and friendly mannerisms of the staff was excelled !!

I found Paradisus to be a beautiful resort—very clean, well kept, aesthetically pleasing, friendly staff. Great amenities above and beyond restaurants (ice cream shop, Nespresso cafe, etc). My only complain is the food – most restaurants were good except for BlueAgave (a taco restaurant)—the food was absolutely terrible, and in some instances, completely inedible—it took over an hour for my party of 7 to be served and there were only 2 or 3 other tables at the time. The "street vendor" taco booth outside of the buffet was delicious, in comparison. Sol (steakhouse) was not included and was extra, which I found strange at an all-inclusive resort and the first time I've encountered that in 15+ years of travelling. Buffet food was good for breakfast, but lunch and dinner were almost inedible and not appealing. Undercooked burgers one day (yuck), stale items and/or seafood that had clearly been sitting under heat lamps for hours, etc. I was expecting better quality of food for the price of the resort. I'm a beach person, but there was so much seaweed, I couldn't get past it to get in the water more than a few steps. Probably why the pools (both family and adult only side) were so busy all the time and almost impossible to find chairs at. To actually secure a spot so I didn't have to compete with people playing the towel game at 6am every day, I ended up paying for a cabana for 2 days (annoying). But I spent a fair amount of time at the adult pool and there was always fun activities, swim up bar had great service, and the pool was large and clean. Rooms were big, relatively modern, and kept very clean. Bathrooms were beautiful, large and modern with a separate water closet (nice touch), a large shower with rain head, and huge jacuzzi tub. The only negative was the noise. The buildings are all tiled on the interior and therefore every noise echos throughout the 4 stories of rooms. We were near the elevator lobby and it was SO LOUD. There was a wedding while I was there one night and some guests must have been drunk because there seemed to be a loud fight and screaming/yelling from 10pm until well after 2am... ON THE FAMILY SIDE... WHERE PEOPLE HAVE YOUNG CHILDREN. I was shocked at the ignorance and complete lack of common courtesy by some guests to not yell and shout in the hallways. Lots of door slamming too at all hours of the day and night. Bring earplugs if you want to sleep. Overall, it was a great experience. Food could be better and more attention to noise reduction would be good.

Everything about the resort was amazing. The a la cartes were all amazing. The room was very clean and large and very well equipped with shampoo and creme rinse and body wash and toothbrushes and bath robes and a safe. Well worth the Reserve upgrade as our assistant Cynthia more than fulfilled our every request such as arranging our dinners and champagne on our anniversary with roses and cake at the restaurant and in our room. Maria at the reserve pool was also amazing as she provided us a Bali bed in the shade (I was ill recently so I have a avoid alot of direct sunlight) she would put towels on it every morning with a smile. The cenote was fantastic and a definite must see. We walked the 30 minutes to shopping and negotiated the pricing of everything. The only thing I would change is the 3.5 hour bus ride on the way back to the airport after having to wait at each hotel for others and then waiting another 3 hours to board the plane and the airport is super expensive. And the seaweed was really bad, they tried to clean it every day but you couldn't swim in it.
