Fort Myers, Florida
More accurately called “Southwest Florida”, visitors arrive at Regional Southwest Airport. Fort Myers is only a small part of the area, and seldom visited by vacationers. Naples is the prime upscale destination that rivals Palm Beach on the east coast for the playground of the wealthy. Stunning wide beaches line the manicured palm-fringed boulevard, giving this area a Beverly Hills feeling. Expensive high rise hotels and condominiums are in this area, with restaurants and boutiques to match. Further south and across a causeway, is Marco Island. This upscale island getaway is a perfect blend of a Caribbean island with the security and comfort of the United States. North of Naples is Fort Myers Beach or Estero Beach. This compact 1960s style beach strip is loaded with motels and small tourist establishments, mixed with some nicer resort hotels. The beach is quite enjoyable with a softer sand than most Florida beaches. Nearby islands of Sanibel and Captiva offer an upscale island vacation just offshore over a causeway. Picturesque, upscale, and manicured resorts and restaurants are pricey and quiet. The entire Fort Myers region is not known for its nightlife, but rather its sprawling condominium complexes, golf courses, and suburban lifestyle. Vacationing here gives all the comforts of home, in a newer environment than its sister destination on the Gulf north at St. Petes.
Fort Myers is not often the first choice of vacationers, unless they have some reason to draw them there. But a large repeat clientele is making this the fastest growing area of Florida.
