Memories Jibacoa: Memories Jibacoa is great
Fun times and so much to do. Havana is a must and snorkel off the beach is amazing. The food is good by Cuban standards and better than the other resorts. Grab the cigars from the lifeguard. The tennis instructor is worth the trip. Bring donations please and contact Jennifer Raymer to help Together for Cuba is a wonderful missionary organization supported by the memories hotel. Thanks Markus and call Eddy Garcia for a ride around Cuba.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Very comfortable stay. Great staff.
The Sanctuary offered a very relaxing experience with a few perks thrown in for extra comfort. The resort is not new but has been maintained well enough. We enjoyed the option to eat breakfast and lunch at the Sanctuary restaurant. There was a nice little snack bar included as well that served a variety of options for lunch. There was usually ample room at the beach, however, I don't believe the resort was near capacity. Pros: ala carte available every night, private adult only area of the resort (including beach), very friendly and helpful staff, good food, good accommodations, dedicated office for Sanctuary guests, very few insects. Cons: We didn't have hot water in our room (other buildings did) - it's Cuba, we kind of expect it.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Santa Maria: Tired Resort
Grounds and pool were well kept. Anyone with mobility issues would be challenged by the stairs/steps to go anywhere. Rooms are in need of updating, especially the bathrooms, mould throughout. Many infrastructure problems while we were there, no water to toilets for two days, we had no hot water for four days. Lack of public washrooms, you were lucky if any were even if working, the poor maid had to flush them with a bucket of water. Bring your own TP Maids do an excellent job of cleaning rooms. All staff were very friendly. Food was adequate, but on buffet nothing was ever hot. Lots of seafood, pasta offerings. Windy/red flag the whole time we were there, beautiful beach for walking. People need to know this area is almost 1.5 hr bus ride from airport

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Holguin: Ok resort
The resort was nice . The grounds well kept. Pools were clean. Bathrooms had toilet paper 75% of the time fairly clean. The rooms were nice but the first room we were in had a really bad sewer smell and a few cockroaches. No A/C working most of the 2 weeks we were there. The second room was nice and no smell. Our Butler Michel was amazing. Always checking in on us every day to see if everything was good. Our day time butler Adriel we hardly ever saw. The food was what we expected. Better hot food at the buffet than the a-la-carts. Huge issue with cockroaches at the Japanese restaurant. They were in the cloth napkins and when the grill was turned on many started crawling out of the cracks on the table top. All 16 of us had to get up and leave before we even got our drinks. Staff were overwhelmed most of the time. Short staffed and working long days. The beach was ok . Very windy with lots of seaweed and garbage on the shore line. Usually raked by later in the day . Being premium wasn’t what it was all that cracked up to be. 2 days the premium bar had no beer or rum. Still love the Cuban people and will go back but just not to this resort.

Sanctuary Cayo Largo: OUTSTANDING RESORT
Let me start with few words about the booking: we did not know anything about this resort and we based our request on what was posted on the Sunwing website. The booking was done via Tripcentral, Ms. Tammy, who for sure did her best for us. Many THANKS. Sanctuary was one of the latest resorts in Cayo Largo....Very unfortunately decision to suffocate Cuba, and the hardworking people from there who are doing an EXCELLENT JOB to keep all the guests super happy. Let me start with LODGING: it was PERFECT as long as we stayed there. FOOD: I will say that we did not go there to gain weight, and thus, what they served was ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT: we did not have any issues, the variety was covering a large range of craves. BEACH: it was posted on the Sunwing website that there is no beach at this resort and transportation to alternated beaches will be available. For a better understanding about the resort beach, I will provide here few details: first day there we took the mini bus to the alternate beaches: PARAISO and SIRENA. Both of them INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL!!!!! The duration of the transfer was 12-14 minutes. Both beaches are inclusive for optional clothing which brings them a nice advantage (IMO). Talking to one of the best people of this Hotel, Mr. Carlos, when we came back from Sirena, he advised us to check the beach which is in front of the hotel at a 4-5 minutes walking distance... We were shocked about the BEAUTY of that beach.... The next couple of days we stayed on that beach...and I ASKED Carlos why that beach is somehow "hidden" from the website and we discovered the TRUTH: during the year, the water comes and go and the beach disappears for the most of the time: he told us, that in normal conditions, the beach is available between the 15th of November and up to the next 15th of February ONLY.... The dates may vary.... In fact this reality applies for all of the resorts which are on that coast: NATURA, LINDA MAR, MEMORIES or STAR FISH... What Carlos told us was proven by the sea: after 8 days, one morning the waves suddenly "ate" the beach and we went again to Sirena, who is something absolutely a dream.... I will mention that I was relying on the Sunwing website info which is OUTDATED that there are tennis courts at the hotels around...I brought with me the racquet and tennis balls to play. Unfortunately, the existing courts at Grand memories CLOSED RESORT), MEMORIES, STAR FISH, are in a deplorable shape...cracks, unleveled, etc. and if you are playing there you will do on your own risk...I suggest to stay away...I was hitting with Carlos, he is a very good player, and we enjoyed hitting few cans of balls... I have to mention few people here who really are PROFESSIONALS and who did everything in order to keep the tourists happy: The Director(Manager) of the RECEPTION DEPARTMENT, Mr. DARYL who definitely makes the difference with his OUTSTANDING customer service attention and care, and who, with elegance and distinction was able to solve any question at any time when we asked him. He has an EXCELLENT English and he has amazing LISTENING SKILLS and he acts instantly by solving any normal request. Very kind, Daryl build a team around him with patience and knowledge. He was very respected by his co-workers and by the tourists as well. Amazing ASSET for Sanctuary! I mentioned Carlos who helps with anything, offers extra steps with trips to LINDA MAR, comes back to pick up at the request, etc. very attentive and as Daryl, FENUINE NICE! I found that our butler, Juan Carlos (JuanCa) was within the limits of his mandate, very useful and very attentive. Overall, we stayed there 9 nights, then we were moved to Memorie and from there to ...Varadero (what an amazing adventure!) in order to return to Canada. The experience at Sanctuary was A PERFECT ONE! Again, the lodging EXCEPTIONAL, very elegant large rooms, amazing bathrooms, everything very clean and functional; No power outages, fresh food, beach - as long as we were there PERFECT! I would rate it as 20/20

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Last visit to this resort
On our first full day, we encountered an issue in the dinner buffet involving staff members. We were upset that at 8:30pm in the evening, nothing was being replenished for a 10pm closing. No wine, veggies for pasta bar, ice cream and so on. When we decided to leave and go to the snack bar, Bites, to eat, and after the staff became aware that we were not happy, 8-10 staff members came outside and started laughing. One lady in particular was pointing and laughing at us very loudly. When I turned around and they say how upset I had become, they all started to scramble, and I wanted to get their names, especially of the one pointing at us. She refused to give me her name, so I threatened to take her picture (which I didn't take), to show it to her supervisor. A young gentleman that was working that evening named Daniel, diffused the situation and apologized for the staff behavior. We were given a bottle of wine for our room, which we never did drink. We then left the buffet, and went to Bites to eat. There, I was approached by a staff member wanted to know my room number. I refused to give it to her. She said she worked in customer service, but I still refused. I was starting to feel like something might happen to us, if we were being followed and they wanted to know where we were staying. The next day, after cooling off with the incident, we talked to a woman who books the ala carte dinners, and explained what had happened the previous evening. She then called in another woman and explained our situation the previous evening. She told me that she would look into our encounter and get back to us. That never happened, so on our last day while waiting for the bus to take us to the airport, I spoke the the gentleman in the Premium lounge, and he took me to the customer service room to clear up what had happened. The same woman that wanted to know my room number was there, and she called in her boss. They both made it sound like I was lying and that their staff did no wrong. Great customer service. I had refused to go back to the buffet for the rest of that week, and stuck to my word. I was humiliated at the buffet and then again by the customer service. After my 3rd trip to this resort, I will never be back.

Memories Jibacoa: Our Favourite Cuban Resort
The hotel is situated between the mountains and the beach 45 minutes from the airport and has beautiful gardens and palms throughout. A short swim out in the ocean reveals long reefs that are an excellent spot to snorkel. If you are a walker the beach is a lovely stretch to enjoy. It is an older hotel but well laid out with easy access to all amenities. The pool is large and well maintained.Rooms are clean, housekeeping is excellent. The staff are warm, friendly and accommodating. Several à la carte restaurants were onsite: the buffet is clean and well stocked. The food, coffees and drinks are above average; we were pleased with the choices and quality. Water was provided daily. Activities were onsite and entertainment was varied; musicians played many evenings.WiFi was a bit sporadic. Information for tours, taxis and attractions was easy to access; a Sunwing rep was present six days a week and was very informative. The appeal for this hotel is the quality of food and the lovely, caring staff.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Great trip and Resort
We visited Memories Caribe during the week of Feb. 8, 2026. We were repatriated back home to Canada on Feb. 16. Aside from the geopolitics with Cuba, the resort overall, and resort staff continued to do amazing work to ensure we were always satisfied and happy. At no time did the stress of what was taking place outside the resort for these employees play a role in how they went about their work with us. I witnessed strong, dedicated, resilient people. We were well aware of the conditions they faced at home, and even while we enjoyed the resources of the resort, it was never far from our minds of the challenges they faced when they went home. Many of them working 16 hour days, more than 7 consecutive days in a row. We travelled to Cuba for many years, and this is the biggest challenge and hardship they will ever face, by far. Our hearts go out to the people of Cuba and when the time is right we will return to Cuba and to Memories Caribe.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: 2nd stay at Memories Flamenco
The beach is truly the highlight of this resort, without a doubt one of the best. It’s a long, breathtaking stretch of soft white sand with crystal-clear water. There are plenty of palapa and lots of chairs, so you never feel stressed about finding shade or a good spot. The pool area is just as enjoyable. The atmosphere comes alive starting at 10am when the music begins, and the entertainment team keeps the energy up all day with tons of fun activities. Whether you want to relax or join in, there’s something for everyone. The food was fantastic throughout our entire stay. There were absolutely no shortages of anything, and the buffet offered a wide variety of options every day. Our room was very clean and comfortable. We had a room with two twin beds, and they were super comfortable, we slept great every night. Housekeeping did a wonderful job keeping everything tidy. The only small issue worth mentioning is that the pool washroom doors don’t shut properly, which could definitely use some attention. However, this was very minor compared to how wonderful everything else was. This was our second time at Memories Flamenco, and it definitely won’t be our last. We already can’t wait to come back again

Memories Cayo Largo: Wonderful Week
Just returned from Memories Cayo Largo. My impression of the resort is it’s a small gem of a resort. Beautiful tucked away resort on a stretch of mind blowing beaches. Though the beach on site is a bit difficult to go down because of the surf destruction once you tackle the first 20 feet you will be in beach heaven, let me add there are stairs as well. The food for the entire week was quite good and some days delicious. The staff was terrific especially Danger on the seafood grill, Lucas in the Ranchon restaurant and Mike at bites in the pool bar/restaurant The only thing that could be better is the bathrooms in your room. They are a bit tired in some of the rooms but in honesty I’m never in my room and not there for that reason. After spending time with many people at the resort for the week I can now understand why they have been countless times and call it there cottage I hope to return some day in years to come.

Memories Jibacoa: Exceptional Resort
We loved our 10 days at Memories Jibacoa. The excellent reviews were spot on. The entire staff were exceptional. The buffet was was one of the best I’ve experienced in Cuba, especially the bread and pastry that was baked fresh everyday. A solid shout out to the pastry chef as well as all the servers in the dining room. Rooms were a bit dated but kept clean and comfortable with fresh towels everyday. The bed was very comfortable with good sheets. A real bonus. Sadly, the Canadian airlines announced their temporary (hopefully) suspension of vacation flights to all of Cuba two days before our scheduled departure fight arrived empty. It was heartbreaking to know how the beautiful people of Cuba would be affected. Stay strong MJ and beautiful Cuba. We will return.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Hard to Review
In light of what is happing to Cuba it's hard to give a negative review. However, They only cleaned my room once in 8 days. I left money and a gift for the Maid and asked for some water. But she never came back. My sink was plugged the whole time so I scooped it out with a cup and into the toilet each day. Other issues too but what's the sense. My biggest anger was with the stupid Government. I quit smoking a year ago after 50 years smoking. I used a Vape to get me by. Got to Cuba and they took my Vapes, not allowed in Cuba. Now, holy shit, here I'm on holidays, sit at the beach and have a drink, relax, and puff on my Vape. Now what, illusions all gone. I'm very mad at myself but I did go buy cigarettes to try and enjoy my trip. II they don't allow the sale of e-cigarettes that's their choice, but they should leave Tourists alone. Been to Cuba many times but my Family and friends will never be going again because of this. Spoke to several others in the same situation and they also said never go back again. Cuba has enough problems without stupid rules that make tourist stay away.

They just want to put you anywhere - trip central -Wendy H was her usual helpful travel advisor. And warned us of potential for issues - no hot water in our rooms except for warm x 20min once And weather wS chilly 15 to 23degrees -al la carts where not very in tune to their nation Italian. Only dessert matched -- disappointing Wine ,,white was rarely available. And the other mixed drinks had reduced PRODUCT available IN Supply Pool was very cold only 3 people ever went i. In the 3 times we frequented -westjetstaff were good even tho the company procedures etc were not adhered to I felt more sad for our friends who joined us as they really did not have a good exposure to how cuba might have presented..

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Cayo coco cuba
I would not recommend Cayo coco Cuba. Stay home. I feel they should close this resort. We did not have any hot water to shower all week also 2 days only air came out of tap.weather was windy and cold so no beach days when weather is like that. There was human sewage on the lawns. Smelled awful. Birds pooping on walls and tables where you go to eat at smogisboard. There also shortage of clean beach towels and toilet paper.and absolutely no face cloths we paid for premium superior deluxe rooms and guess what they are all the same. Our friends who we traveled with there room was musty smelling..the coffee came cold at the restaurants. Our fridge in room really did not keep things cold. We were promised 4 alcarts and only got 3. The food was all the same no special food at premium restaurant which we paid extra for we had premium class superior deluxe which we paid extra for. Trip was a total disappointment. We were to have early book in our rooms but that did not happen either. The people of Cuba are amazing friendly people. I would not go back . I would give this place a complete miss 0/10.

Memories Cayo Largo: Loved Cayo Largo
Cayo Largo is a Beautiful small Island! We stayed at Memories Cayo Largo, the rooms are very outdated and falling apart but we didn’t care to much about the room, you just sleep and shower there. Apparently the Hotel is updating the rooms this Summer. The food was great, there’s a meat station that had, chicken, pork or ham, a pasta/pizza station and a fish station. They also had salads,Turkey 3 nights and Lobster or Filet Mignon that you paid $30 USD for. We loved the Sunset Cruise, we stopped at 3 islands that were spectacular, had Lobster or Chicken to choose from for Dinner, then watched the Sunset!!! I used the spa and had 2 90 min massages during my week stay. There are some bugs at night if your around vegetation but they only seemed to bite me and not the other 5 people we were with. We will definitely go back when the rooms are renovated. The staff are amazing! Bring Cat Food if you love cats, there’s approximately 50 on the resort. Bring a lot of $1 bills for tips, approximately $20 per day. Don’t give Canadian change to them, it’s useless money in Cuba but they can use Canadian Dollar Bills. You can pay your excursions with Canadian Bills also. The Premium package is worth it just for the Butler service, but you also save 30% at the spa. This Resort was an older crowd with very few children or younger adults which we like, were in our early 50’s. We will be returning again!!!

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: terrific resort.
We went from January 13th to 20th. We picked the perfect week. Only had one cloudy breezy day in which we went to the pool instead. The rest of the week was average 25-27 celcius. Our room was good and clean each day. Nice balcony view from building four. We very enjoyed the buffet. Lots to pick from with four grills going .The dessert tables were very good. But the best part were the cooks and the waitresses. After the first day as soon as we walked in we were greeted right away and shown a table to sit at. They were very pleasant. The resort looked only about 60% full but the staff everywhere from bartenders to maids to the guy on the beach who always had the perfect lounges for us were extremely courteous. In a nutshell we had a great time and look forward to going back in April ( if Trump don't screw up their oil supply from venezela )

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Pleased overall
The Butler service was amazing. They went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of everyday. The ocean view from our room was spectacular. The pool was pretty great. Not amazing but still great. The staff goes above and beyond so 10 out of 10 for them. We were very happy with most of our drinks even though they often ran out of stuff but it is what it is. I wouldn't rate lower because of that. When you stay at the sanctuary, you have the option to go to the big resort at Grand memories for the buffet and the entertainment and the disco. Honestly the only thing I will say is that the a la carte restaurants were all the same s*** that you get at the buffet. (Meat , Rice, beans) The only one a la carte that was amazing was the Italian cuz you could get a great pizza which us Canadians love night!!

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Holguin: January 13th -27th vacation
January 13th - 27th vacation Our first time visiting Sanctuary at Grand Memories Holguin and am pleased to say our trip was fantastic. The Premium upgrade with butlers was outstanding. We were assigned Dariel as our daytime butler and Alvaro José Blanco Pupo for the evenings. Wow!! What a pleasure to get to know these two young men. The dedication and care we received was incredible. I received Good morning texts from Dariel asking how we are doing and if anything was needed. And a how was our day from Alvaro in the evening. They booked all our a la carte dinners and coordinated together as a team. Each would randomly show up to say hello at breakfast or lunch and dinner. We always felt cared for. Breakfast was ordered in advance from Dariel and always delivered for our Aunt Jeannine when she decided to sleep in. They took great care of us and her as we celebrated her 82nd birthday on this trip. We asked and received extra pillows and blankets thank you again as our room air conditioning worked to well at times. Water to our room was always working, shower pressure was as good as home. I have to mention the whole butler system at this resort is one of the best teams I have encountered in our 22yrs of travels to many different island resorts . I have had butler service in many places but nothing like this dedicated group. A few more to mention that would stop by wherever we were at the time to see how we were doing Yosbel Zaldívar Sarmiento and Pablo who is also is attending university and Michel. Michel was assigned to my brother who surprised me at the resort at the start of our second week. I was sending photos of the resort pics of the food. That helped him decide to book two days before flying out to join us for our last week. I’m sorry so many others names I can’t remember. I was ask by guests why upgrade you don’t get much more than a few extra a la cart dinners. I can say we received much more than that. Never having to go to the front desk to ask a question or make a reservation or request or to report being locked out of your safe lol Alvaro called technicians and they were prompt to arrive. Using WhatsApp or Messenger was perfect to communicate. Room service for our aunt or ourselves. Extra anything they could provide they did. And so much more to mention but it would be a book. Our breakfast and lunch in the premium section restaurants was sit down service and a game changer. No line up to wait and the service staff was so friendly and over the course of two weeks those we interacted and spoke with often would remember us and specific things we mentioned about ourselves. This resort is not lacking in wine , soft drinks or food. Our fridge was stocked daily with water, two soft drinks and 2 beers (Crystal) All our meals were large portions plus always options for staters. Every soup I tried was delicious. I’m a little scared to try on my work pants My favourite and most consistent meal was at the Creole restaurant. The pools are beautiful and clean. Our ocean view was absolutely amazing. Building A 1311 Mila and Glenise our housekeepers work very hard always clean towels, floors clean and shiny coffe maker cleaned coffee packets left for our use and took the time for some beautiful extra little touches for me in my room. Always looked forward to coming back to see what they did. The ground’s gardening staff work incredibly hard to keep it looking beautiful. I can only say from our experience we would definitely return here in the future. Same room ? ?. This resort was a bonus to find but people of Cuba are what keeps us coming back.

Grand Memories Varadero: Old and not maintained
I had an extremely disappointing stay at this hotel. From the moment I arrived, it was obvious that cleanliness and basic maintenance are not priorities here. The rooms are dirty and outdated, and housekeeping barely does anything. Changing the bed sheets seems to be the extent of their cleaning. The staff were consistently rude and unhelpful, which made every issue even more frustrating. When my door broke, I was repeatedly told maintenance would arrive in five minutes. That turned into nearly two hours of waiting. There was no apology, no urgency, and no accountability. Because of constant problems, I was forced to switch rooms multiple times, which was exhausting and completely unacceptable. Instead of relaxing, I spent my stay dealing with one issue after another. Overall, this hotel is old, poorly maintained, and badly managed. Between the lack of cleanliness, misleading wait times, rude staff, and nonstop room changes, I would not recommend staying here. Save yourself the stress and book somewhere else.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Beautiful beach
Enjoyed our stay at Memories Caribe. Great beach beautiful grounds. Only issue was lack of hot water on some days. Route 66 sports bar was a great place to hang out and the access to the bus for the cave bar made the trip. No issues with shortages or bugs.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Cuba Is Suffering
I can’t say enough about the people. I’ve travelled to many islands and the Cuban people are by far the most appreciative, hospitable and this trip was no exception. Rooms were typical but clean. Beach was AMAZING. I wish people wouldn’t “cool off” (pee in the pool). If you sit and watch how many people actually leave to use the facilities you would most likely spend more time at the beach!! The hotel had no vodka (which unfortunately is all we drink) but the staff managed to find 1 bottle for the two of us. We went to town and bought the only vodka on the shelf. So we did have to ration for the week. I would have liked to change my beach towel at least once. Unfortunately they were only open the first day we arrived.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Awesome
I was in unit 30 and had no issues. Clean towels, garbage taken every day. Water, beer and sprite left daily. The butler was visible frequently throughout the day and was very eager to assist. Grounds were beautiful. The beach and pools were fantastic. Everything was clean. Staff were polite and helpful. I am allergic to peppers and still found plenty to eat.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Santa Maria: Wonderful vacation at Sanctuary Grand Memories, Cayo Santa Maria
My husband and I stayed at this resort from January 7 to January 14/2026. This was our second vacation at this resort and we will definitely be returning. The last time we were there was in 2024 and imagine our surprise when we entered the lobby of Sanctuary and saw the faces of workers who were there in 2024 and THEY RECOGNIZED US and greeted us with a huge smile, big wave and hugs. We were so touched by this. We felt we were back with family. Our room was lovely, including a very comfortable bed, comfortable pillows and an excellent shower with an abundance of hot water. Our butler Odlanier did everything in his power to ensure our stay was great including obtaining reservations for us at à la carte restaurants each evening. I also have to give credit to the director Cesar for keeping everything running in a very organized way. We found there was an abundance of food with an excellent variety. In fact, we did not notice any shortages of anything at this resort. We even had one of our favourite types of Scotches to drink in the evening and we very much enjoyed their Spanish Coffees. The grounds at this resort were very well kept, the pool was very clean and of course the beach is one of the most beautiful we have ever seen. With all this said we will be returning to this resort in the future and one of the main reasons for saying this is how we loved the Cuban people working there. We truly felt with many of them they were part of our family!!!

Well kept property and the staff are friendly and sincere in wanting to make your vacation the best possible. They work incredibly hard and long hours to tend to their clients and it shows in the numbers of repeat guests that come 2-3 times annually. Small resort but great variety in activities, food and beverage that is not necessarily available in the larger resorts on the island.

Memories Jibacoa: Memories Jibacoa
Overall good. We have been to Memories Jibacoa about 12 times. However, some problems: Missing pool tiles an ongoing problem for years, sharp edges hazardous to feet in pool. They are working on it. Needs to be repaired once & for all. Of 2 hot tubs only one working for years, cold water only, not heated. Hot tubs when used are often dominated by Cubans, who set up for the day, loudly play their own music, even eating in the hot tub. More & more Cubans present, that's not a problem, but a problem when, they play their own loud music at the pool or beach, they pile up food on their plates & tables, then don't eat it, they but into lines at bars & food stations, not waiting their turn. The resort MUST maintain its ambiance as a quieter, relaxing, adult place to stay, or it will lose its customer base. Workers & staff are generally warm & wonderful, with the exception of a man & a woman who work at the pool bar & tend to be quite surly, as though you're bothering them to get service. The drinks served vary widely in contents & quality depending who makes them. When classes, events were cancelled, there was no announcement to guests or a replacement staff made available. Get Nelson the omelet man new & more fry pans!! In the mornings the wait staff had to go too far for single cups of coffee. But, the coffee had improved in quality. The quality of wines offered could be improved. Especially in the buffet. Need to get the sail boats fixed, get more sail boats & peddle boats that are operating, extend their operating hours, they quit at 2 pm !! No scuba diving on Sundays, this shouldn't happen when there are days during the week there's no diving due to weather. Some of the best weather days, Sundays, there was NO diving available. Villa Tropical/Jibacoa next door dive 7 days a week. Sometimes there are not enough dive guides available. The dive regulators need better servicing, especially o-rings & mouthpieces. Leaks even from high pressure hoses. I know it's Cuba & parts are hard to get, but safety is paramount. More newer loungers needed around the beach. There was less variety of entertainment, no opera, no aqua ballet, no acrobats, etc. What they had was very good though & well done. Dancers work very hard & are very good. Flamenco dancers were a high light. Musicians very good. Missed the piano player in restaurants & piano bar. Grounds & rooms are well cleaned & maintained. Maids & gardeners work very hard & are very pleasant. We still love the resort & most of the workers. Just, don't let it slip! These are areas that need addressing & soon. Despite all, we will be back as we still enjoy it overall.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: NOT a 4-star hotel.
This hotel is about a 2.5 (star). The beach was beautiful...jelly fish, turtles, crabs, sea cucumbers, pelicans, ballyhoo, etc and beautiful, clear water with white sand! Garbage could be picked up more frequently from the bins, the bush, the sand, etc. The piano bar was also a very nice place to relax during the day and every evening there was live (very good), entertainment. The glass/windows were never cleaned anywhere, mold was present everywhere and often cheaply painted over to cover it up. Many rooms (including premium), did not have hot water and a few even had cockroaches. Towels and bedding often had stains and some rooms never had their dirty towels changed. Food/buffet was often very repetitive or limited (serving wieners 3 different ways at once), and as expected, not much flavour. A la carte was better. Friendliness wasn't bad, but employees seemed to be mediocre (in all areas...groundskeepers, waitresses, bus drivers, etc).

Grand Memories Holguin: Worst trip EVER!
This resort was by far the worst travel experience for our family of 4 over the last 25 years. This was not what we expected for a week of relaxation and starting the new year strong! My son and I got stomach flu on the 2nd day, and I got elevated blood pressure due to absence of healthy food options. Considering health issues and lack of hotel food and accommodation quality, we decided to leave to resort on January 1 at 7:15 am resulting in rescheduling return flights with Sunwing representative on December 31, 2025. We have had 3 prior visits to Cuba in the past with a pleasant experience and having a reasonable expectation for travelling to Cuba. Knowing that Cuba offered lower standard for food and accommodations while providing great hospitality, safe environment and trustworthy staff. This resort failed almost at every level as a 4.5 stars resort. I would rate this resort as a strong 2 stars! The dissatisfaction was a general sentiment among many of the guests staying at the resort at the same time. It was almost a chaos! Many repeat customers were shocked and displeased with the current resort conditions – stating it was not like this before. We were told by the resort staff that the resort was in middle of transition from one resort management company to another starting January first; and the current company had dropped the ball so to speak! They had stopped spending money to buy food and keep the right staff level. We witnessed people to get special treatment from resort staff by getting scrambled eggs in a covered plate or beef while these items were not offered to others at large. Food Quality The food variety was limited and unacceptable for a 4 star plus resort. Basically, the food options were hot dogs cooked in 3-4 ways (fried, boiled, and cut in tomato sauce), rice and bread. There was no vegetarian option – only green peas, shredded carrot, and cucumbers or tomatoes on some lucky days (never both at the same time). The resort did not offer a health-conscious option. There was no consideration for food allergy. Given that my son had a severe peanut allergy and my daughter was vegetarian, we were faced with a high risk of life-threatening allergic reaction for my son and no food options for my daughter. It was an effort to find something to your liking to eat. And we were not alone! You could watch people taking a couple of full circles around the food stations and leave with empty plates or a couple of items. You were basically forced to eat something so not to starve! In the buffet there were 3 hot food cooking stations in the evenings (pasta station, taco station and grill station) – all with the same 3 or 4 ingredients (-green peas, sausage, ham, cucumber). -To get food from these cooking stations we had to stand in the line for 50 mins to an hour (we timed it). Pasta and taco stations offered pasta and taco with the same ingredients of peas, cold cut hum and cucumbers, while the grill section offered chicken only. After standing in line for an hour, we would realise that it was not worth it because the food was blunt and unsafe to eat due to ignoring food handling safety procedures. Salad bar was canned sardines, one type of cold cut, shredded carrot, and green peas. There was no greens salad bar, tomato, cucumber, cheese. The New Years eve food selection did include 2 types of cheese; however, it was sprinkled with peanut and peanut butter on the same plate. Not an option for someone with peanut allergy. The soups were salty with fatty pork stock. The dessert included Jello in yellow and orange colour, and melted ice-cream pool. The only juice option was a mango juice, no other options. There were no fresh or dry fruits at all except for New Years Eve dinner at the buffet that offered grapes and apples. We realised that people were simply taking the fruits to their room so that they can have some fruits the following days. The breakfast did not include simple things like eggs, yogurt, fruits, etc. Eggs and yogurt were offered in the premium section only. Since when items such as eggs and yogurt are considered premium items? Food Handling and Service The concept of safe food handling was foreign to the resort staff. The service was extremely slow with long lines. It would take 40 to over 60 minutes to get food. There were no food labels. Important for people with allergy or certain food preferences. The first night, the lady, working at the fajita station, would add ingredients with her bare hand while touching everything else with the same hand through the cooking process. The second night, the guy, working at the fajita station, would use the same fork to add raw chicken pieces to the grill and later to add diced cucumber to the already cooked fajita and chicken. A serious risk of getting salmonella. The chicken breast pieces were not fully cooked. You could spot uncooked pink parts. This issue was shared by many others. Again, a great risk of getting salmonella. There was no serving spoon in the jello bar. Meaning, individuals had to use their own spoon to get jello from bowls. The other food stations shared a single tong among 4/5 types of salad or food. It’s not an exaggeration to say that the buffet was filthy (the floor and the food cooking stations). We saw cockroaches crawling on the food cooking station. Wait staff in the buffet were unfriendly, slow and nowhere to be found. There was no one to seat you or fill your glass with water or ask what kind of drink you want. If we would find a waiter and ask for water, it would take 30 mins to get it after numerous reminders. Room Initially, we were given 2 rooms both with king beds for us and our children. Later, they switched us to 2 rooms with double beds as they could not resolve the issues with the initial rooms. They were cockroaches and bed bugs in the rooms. The door latch was missing from inside. The balcony door lock was not working. The safe door was not closing. There was no working TV or working room phones. The room door was not easily opening with the card. We would get stock outside our room with frustration. The air conditioning controller was broken – not able to adjust the room temperature. There were coffee mugs in the room but no coffee machine. There were only two towels in the room, so we had to use the same towel for face and shower. Towels were not changed daily. There was no extra toilet paper, whatever was on the roll. The room fridge only offered one bottle of water. There was no internet in the rooms. Main lobby The water dispenser had no water only filled with ice for hours. The staff didn’t make the effort to refill with water. You could always spot dirty glasses, cups, and plates on the tables. There was no timely cleanup. Public Washrooms The washrooms were filled with unpleasant smell either due to aging facility or not timely cleaning. The washrooms did not have operational or refilled soap dispensers. Door locks were broken. WIFI / Phone System Weak and unreliable WIFI. WIFI only worked at certain areas – could not stay in touch with family members in the resort. The phone in the rooms didn’t work - no dial tone. Could not call the reception for a service request. Since most of the things were not operational in our room, we had to physically walk to reception to ask for it to be fixed. The resort didn’t have landline to make a collect call. Had to use own personal phone. Beech and Pool The beach and pool areas were not attained at all. We never saw a resort staff to clean or put chemicals in the pools. The beach and pool chairs were broken, dirty and misplaced, dirty paper cups all over, garbage and seaweed covered shoreline.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Memories caribe- Cayo Coco
Just got back from Memories Caribe and had an awesome trip overall. Great vibe, great people, and a beach that honestly steals the show. The good stuff • Shockingly comfy bed • Gorgeous lagoon view from our balcony (room 2016) — 10/10 would wake up to that again • Super central location near the beach, buffet, pool, and premium breakfast • Staff were AMAZING — friendly, warm, and genuinely cared • The beach ? Unreal. Stingrays, starfish, jellyfish, pelicans… basically a nature documentary The not-so-great • One king bed shared with my niece (bonding level: extreme) • Bathroom privacy = nonexistent (glass toilet, open shower… good luck) • No hot water for showers all week • Pool was very cold • Nightlife shut down early (piano bar at 11 pm, nightclub shortly after) • Concierge wasn’t much help on our delayed-flight chaos day Pro tip Bring ketchup, peanut butter, oatmeal, toilet paper, and bug spray. I survived the mosquitoes… my niece did not. Overall A charming resort with a fun vibe, amazing staff, and a stunning beach. A few hiccups, but the memories (pun intended) were worth it.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Hotel is lost its four star rating
This is just an awful place to take a vacation for one week other than the beach there's absolutely zero customer service during the week. the beach bar both of them completely out of ice for 2 days major problem is none of the telephones work in the Suites you can't get a hold of the front desk for any little thing unless you actually walk to the front desk and then half of them don't even know what you're talking about the food menus where there used to be four or five stars menus are completely gone in all the à la carte restaurants here the menus are still posted but there's nothing available on them so you don't know ahead of time which restaurant to go to cuz they don't post what they're actually serving until you sit down and then you get the big disappointment you are left with practically nothing to choose from for dinner for appetizer or dessert. the newly renovated rooms are very nice. The breakfast and Buffet area food is okay it's the only real place to eat but the menu never changes there was no shrimp no Lobster there was not even any type of beef steak other than hamburger pork and chicken it's pretty well used in every dish The resort bars for a day and a half completely out of draft beer that was unbelievable, as well as some premium stock Liquors you could not get like vodka and a few others where sold out at times.Resort grounds are kept beautifully trimmed the beach of course is beautiful even though half of it is gone it's nothing like the pictures you see on the website .there's no such thing as premium or personal concierge you can't get a hold of one anyway because the room phones in the entire Resort are dead.the biggest disappointment is the premium Club office personnel after the very first day they disappeared most Personnel that was left to serve you practically don't have a clue of what's going on in this Resort .there was also only one show in the week 7 nights only one show all the rest of the shows were canceled. most bartenders and restaurants staff had poor communication skills like everyone else at this Resort especially the management at the front desk and the premium service office staff could barely understand anything you tried to ask them they just shook their head with no clue of what to do.not trained well about operations in the entire Resort

Grand Memories Varadero: NO WAY!!!! RUNNNNNNNN......save yourself the trip and pay extra to go to another destination!
The hotel was horrible, had no hot water for the entire duration of our stay! The room smelled like mold and the outside smelled like the sewage was going to back up at any moment. The toilets didn't flush right and coming from a northern ontario county I know all about septic damage! This hotel was not a 4.5 Star like the rating gives it.....more like a 0.5 Star! We arrived and my husband and kids walked into their room on the first night to it looking like there was a massive orgy that just happened! The room was not clean, the beds were slept in , there was viagara on the counter and condoms between the beds!!! Like what kind of Smile Kids Resort is this!?????? If this isn't enough to read it gets better m the bathroom had piss in it and my teens shared a room that the lock and door pad was broken and falling off. Keys never work and you walk over a mile to the front desk to get another one (IF Someone is there you are lucky)! The pool was half empty and when they finally filled it on the 3rd day it was sub-zero temps! Don't forget to pack lots of snacks and make sure you bring condiments that you would enjoy! But its CUBA, the beach is a beauty and the water is clear! Mosquitoes are hungry so don't stay by the sand after 6 pm! I really feel like if Sunwing and TripCentral don't think my family deserve another holiday then thats a shame.....no hot water.....staff even complaining and agreeing with how we were all staying is not right. To think, we brought over 20 people to this resort at an average of $1300 per person!!! Great Memory for sure!

Grand Memories Holguin: My Honest Review
Here's my honest review of our stay (December 27th - January 3rd) . We booked our trip to Grand Memories Holguin last minute (one week prior) and elected to go with the Premium rooms. Since we were traveling with our 2 teens we booked two separate rooms. Our rooms 3434 & 3435 were in building G and were ocean/pool view. They were modern and clean and no signs of any pests during our stay. Maids were great and replaced our towels and bed sheets daily and restocked our mini fridges with coke, sprite, beer and water as needed. Our first 2 days the food was poor even for Cuba standards with very limited food selection and no vegetables or fruit at all at any of the restaurants. We even ventured to the nearby market to try and buy some but they too had nothing. From day 3 and onwards the food got a lot better and suddenly had tomatoes and cucumbers and even fries but no other greens. Their bread is made fresh daily and is really good. Buffet has good pizza but limited to cheese, tomatoes and ham only. They also have pasta with tomato and/or alfredo sauce although they lack parmasean to give it more genuine flavor. Their grilled wraps are quite good and have choice of chicken, pork or Tuna and have similar taste to a melt sandwich except I found these to be tastier than ones back home due to their freshly made/baked bread wraps. They do also have a wide variety of other meal stations but they do lack any greens -lettuce, spinach, broccoli, etc.. Their desserts were pretty good too - my personal favorite was their guava ice-cream. Since we had 2 Premium rooms, we had 2 butlers ( Orlando & Luiz) who were each helpful in getting us reservations to the 4 allacarte restaurants as well as dinner reservations at the Premium restaurant. Therefore we ate dinner at 5 different restaurants over our 7 days. Japanese was the best in terms of entertainment followed by Creole, Agea, Premium and Italian based on our likings of the food. Each allacarte had 3-4 course meals so we left full every time Drinks They DO NOT have any Vodka and unless your Premium, no coke either.. But they do have a decent selection of rum and whiskey and tequila. Pina-colodas were hit and miss based on availability of ingredients but they always had espresso martinis which were tasty. Mojitos were also hit and miss based on (mint) availability. The 3 pools all looked clean although we opted for the beach instead which was cleaned every morning of weeds/ rubbish. That said, there is some garbage which floats in from the ocean with waves. The water right in front of the hotel was clear but often stirred up by the waves however 5mins down from there the water was insanely clear mostly due to the reef which broke down the waves. Snorkeling was amazing and we saw every type of fish possible- just like visiting an aquarium, and found numerous shells and conch's. They also had pedal boats and kayaks which could be reserved for free. We also booked an excursion which incluuded sailing via catamaran, Snorkeling and visiting an island with a jeep tour of the wildlife including zebras, antelope, wild horses and iguanas. The beach was amazing and the Snorkeling was AMAZING. Had I'd been asked to rate my experience on our first 2 days, I would have been a lot more critical and advised people not to come. While they are still lacking green vegetables and most fruits, I would rank my stay as 3 out of 5 and would therefore return to Cuba but maybe try a different hotel closer to the bigger cities as I believe the issue with their lack of supplies has to do with this resorts isolation coupled with Cuba's fuel and other shortages.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Horrible Experience
This is our 10th to Cuba and our second time to this resort but has gone downhill since. The biggest issue was the shortage of toilet paper in the entire resort. There were times where every stall was out of toilet paper. There are no soap dispensers in the pool area bathroom. We paid for the premium package which we did not receive at all. We were to have the premium drinks and that bar was actually not even open. Customer service for the first time in our many trips was very disappointing. We know what to expect regarding food in Cuba but the food shortages was shocking. Ran out of food everyday half way through service. I am so disappointed with our entire trip. Although the snorkeling trip was amazing thanks to Daniel our guide. A big shout out Maria and Yanet as well.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: It’s all about managing expectations!
Here are some of our observations BOOKING Our Trip Central travel agent met our expectations, she was efficient, responsive and timely. HOTEL TRANFER AND CHECK-IN We arrived late at night and dropped off at the other lobby. We had to find our way to the Sanctuary side on our own. Someone to greet us with golf cart would have been nice! Check-in was rather quick. Wish they had bracelets with built in door key. We booked Sanctuary premium and no regrets. Most people say paying premium does not give you extra and it did for us. We had a room with a view facing the walking path to the beach. Perfect! Our flight was delayed and we stayed an extra night, they put us up on the Memories side and this is when we truly saw the difference, There is no way I would have stayed in that room for a week. The furniture was falling apart, the drapes were hanging off the track, the beds hard as rock, the bath tub was a hazard, you had to step over a high wall to get in, definitely a safety issue. ROOMS The rooms are very dated, the furniture is old, some mood is visible in washroom as well as spots on bed skirts, the mirrors were all stained (looked like varnish splashes). The fridge was well stocked, the air conditioning worked at max only, otherwise it would drip. Not enough electrical outlets in the room. The phones don’t work. Tip: bring candle to change the smell and small flashlight in case of power outage. FOOD AND DRINKS Always something missing; they ran out of white wine on day 2, the blender drinks were not good, the beer was ok, the coffee was terrible, lots of unknown dishes at buffet, lots of wieners, no French fries, no pizza, no shrimps, disgusting hamburgers, omelettes made with Parmesan powder, no milk, no ham or other cheese at omelette station. The fried rice at lunch was good but after a few days, you had enough, The ham and cheese sandwiches were a good choice st the pool snack bar and they became our regular lunch with soup every day. The soups were ALL excellent. The a la carte restaurants were good and a nice chance, the oriental restaurant does not serve Asian food, it’s chicken, pork or fish like the other restaurants. The Cuban party by the pool offered great food, the best salmon I had all week. BUTLERS Efficient, easy to reach and quite responsive. BEACH Awesome, great attendant most days, they find you a spot on the beach and also serves you drinks. They alternate every other day, one of them was not as good, he was more interested in selling cigars and chatting with lifeguards or other workers. POOLS Although we did not spend much time there, we noticed they were super clean, we watched this man clean and he was very thorough. CIGAR BAR The best drinks, the best atmosphere, comfortable seating and great live entertainment. They also had great little canapés that were delicious. Overall 6/10 The price was right, we went on a budget and did not have high expectations, as such we were not disappointed.

Grand Memories Varadero: Should be a two star
Hi Natalie I just wanted to reach out and take a second to tell you about probably the worst trip of my life. My uncle and I landed in varadero December 26 arrived to the hotel and checked in got our room like every other time (everything was normal) got to the room and noticed it was very dated and dirty (room #21322) I went to get in the shower and was surprised by no hot water.my uncle pulled back the sheets and what looked like body fluids.so he paid the cleaner $50 American to clean the room. I went to the customer desk and talked to the lady’s at the front desk and told them about no hot water and how the room was a mess. They told me to come back at 9:30am tomorrow morning and we will change your room. I got back to the room with new sheet on my uncles bed and we went to 24 hour snack bar for a snack(probably the worst excuse for a hotdog ever seen ). Work up at 3:00am freezing cold and couldn’t turn off the a/c the thermostat wasn’t working so I turned off the breaker. And the door key never worked and had to get the cleaning lady to let us in or get the keys programmed daily. Wake up in the morning go to the front desk and they said come back at 4:30 pm so we went to buffet. It was so dirty and smelled so bad I couldn’t eat. My uncle had some omelette and I went to get some toast but couldn’t find any butter. After a 4 days we finally got a new room with hot water which was amazing but the room was also dated and dirty and the door key actually worked but the a/c didn’t(no big deal ) after 4 days of trying to find something to eat and wishing for a little bit of butter they wheel into the buffet and sculpted crocodile and what I think could be a deer out of butter(I was like that’s where the butter has been?) cockroaches running around the buffet and smells terrible wasn’t in the mood for food anyway. Needless to say I been to varadero 36 times in the last 4 years I’m sure I have a file with you guys I normally stay at the occidental arenas Blanca’s for cheap $540-$900 or I stay at Melia internacional for $1400-$2400 per person. I payed $2250 per person for the worst Cuban experience I have ever had in my life and paid the most money for it. I’m incredibly disappointed to say the least hopefully something can be done about this. Thanks Rob

Memories Jibacoa: Fantastic Resort! Staff second to none!
This hotel is somewhat outdated, but it is extremely clean and very well maintained. Considering it’s Cuba, the food was very good, and the staff were absolutely excellent—perhaps the best I’ve experienced at any resort. You can tell they are proud to work there; they are enthusiastic, genuine, and consistently welcoming every day. The staff truly make this hotel what it is. Another great feature is the location. The resort is about an hour from Havana, making it perfect for a worthwhile day trip, and the surrounding areas are absolutely stunning. The beach was also very beautiful and easy to walk, adding to the overall relaxing atmosphere. This is a very peaceful resort, and I would highly recommend it. Thank you to Trip Central for the help in finding this resort.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Holguin: Questionnable
Non.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Sanctuary at Grand Memories
Our family of 7 had a great time at the Grand Memories Sanctuary. It was a little resort in a big resort. It had its own beach, pool bar, bar and buffet. Every room at the Sanctuary has their own butler. They are amazing humans who you can text whenever you need something. Our favourite was Norvy- he was our kid’s butler- but he was always around and answered our questions and helped us out- even though he wasn’t our butler. All butlers work in pairs- they alternate. Our two butlers- Tahlia and Jenny were also very good and helpful. The food was good. Not much to eat if you are a vegetarian though. Everything has meat in it and the restaurant staff tried their best, but two of our kids had a very limited diet for the week. I would recommend that vegetarians pack their own protein and snacks to bring. Pool bar was a great place to order breakfast and lunch. The Sanctuary has its own small secluded beach with bar service. You can also eat a bbq lunch down at the beach bar too. The big resort was a five minute walk away. The main lobby had some good entertainment after supper. It had several nice pools, a swim up bar and OK pool bar food. It was open 24 hrs. The two big buffets in the main hotel were OK- not as good as the Sanctuary. The Sanctuary unfortunately had an entertainment person that played LOUD music all day long by the pool. There were not many people in the pool because of this- it would have been nice to lounge by the pool and just read, swim or have a conversation without the constant BOOM BOOM or his loud voice trying to get people to play games. Really wanted to give him $100 to stop playing for an hour so we could enjoy the pool. So- we never swam in the pool- just in the ocean where it was quiet. As it is a small resort in a big resort- we met a lot of people and got to know many of them. The staff there worked a lot of long days. They were always setting up something for a party or special day. They always had a smile for you even if they were tired. New Years Eve was amazing. The band, the food, the champagne…. Our older kids’ room had newer paint and hot water 24 hours. They also paid for the extra package. This was the only difference between theirs and ours. The younger kids’ room had no hot water and not much toilet paper. Our room had toilet paper and hot water from 4-8pm. The resort did not have blackouts, it had wifi, and there was lots of food. Not a variety of food, but there was lots. If you are over 18- go to the Sanctuary- not the main resort. We would all go back.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: So So Sanctuary in November
Sanctuary at Grand Memories Veradero November 2025 Trip Overview My wife and I booked it because we were tired of being sick for much of September and October and needed time together, and the direct flight from Ottawa in early November was inexpensive. Unfortunately, WestJet delays caused us to lose two full days of our vacation and added an extra day of leave from work. Once we finally arrived, the resort was not full, which worked in our favour. The weather was cooler during much of our stay, and two days were too windy and wavy to enter the ocean. The pool water was also cold. Even so, when the ocean was calm enough to enjoy, it was fantastic. The Sanctuary beach area was close, quiet, and had excellent seating. We spent time reading, relaxing, and enjoying drinks even on red flag days, which became some of the more peaceful moments of the trip. Food Food was generally good for Cuba. We did not try the specialty restaurants because in Cuba they tend to feel similar to the sit-down dining already available. Sanctuary meals were convenient and quieter, but the kitchen was extremely slow at breakfast, with simple items like eggs and omelets taking close to an hour. We liked the small buffet-style accompaniments available at each meal. The main Grand Memories buffet had friendlier staff and a more positive atmosphere, although the buffet often ran out of plates and lines for certain stations were long. Birds were allowed inside the main buffet and often perched in the rafters. While the bird song was pleasant in the morning, it raised questions about hygiene and droppings. Food variety at the sit-down meals changed throughout the week and we always found something to enjoy. The soup, however, was consistently watery and lacked substance, with fish soup being the most common. We did not enjoy it. At the buffet, cross-contamination was noticeable because there were not enough utensils for each dish, and many guests moved spoons from one dish to another. Overall score: 3.5 out of 5 Pool We went into the pool every day, even though the water was cold for much of the week. We were not able to stay in as long as usual until the last few days, when the weather warmed up. Despite the cold water, the night we arrived became one of the most memorable parts of the trip. We arrived after midnight and jumped into the Sanctuary pool until four in the morning, simply relieved to finally be there after two days of travel chaos. The Sanctuary pool area was never crowded and always had loungers available. Music around the pool was an odd mix of country music and unrelated genres that did not match the Caribbean setting. The Sanctuary does not have a direct pool bar, but staff came around to take drink orders when we sat near the tables. Our room backed directly onto the pool, which made accessing it extremely convenient. Overall score: 3.5 out of 5 Beach The beach was one of the highlights of our stay. The Sanctuary section was close, quiet, and had comfortable seating that was always available. We never felt crowded. We lost two days to red flag conditions where the waves were too rough to enter the water. Even on those days, we enjoyed sitting on the beach with drinks, reading, and listening to the wind. On calm days, the ocean was excellent. The water was clear, inviting, and easy to enjoy for long stretches. Overall score: 4 out of 5 Facilities The Sanctuary section was very easy to navigate, with flat walkways, clear signage, and short distances between the pool, bar, restaurant, and beach path. Because the resort was not full, the entire area felt quiet and easy to move around. Maintenance issues were visible in both the Sanctuary and the main resort, such as worn areas or older fixtures, but they did not significantly detract from the stay. The Sanctuary bar and outdoor seating areas were pleasant and reliable places to sit, and service there was consistently good. The Sanctuary pool area was quiet and comfortable, though a pool heater would be beneficial during cooler periods. Overall score: 3.5 out of 5 Rooms Our Sanctuary room was clean and reasonably comfortable, but it came with several issues. The layout was unusual, with areas placed at angles that felt unintuitive at first. We paid for the premium level, but it offered no noticeable benefit; guests who did not pay for premium were in identical rooms. The jetted tub and shower area looked appealing, but hot water was rarely available. Most days the water was cold, and on the first day the tub produced brown water with sediment. Even after the concierge addressed this, reliable hot water never appeared throughout our stay. Housekeeping kept the room tidy, but restocking was inconsistent. Our bar soap disappeared on the third day and was never replaced, so we had to walk to the shower and use shower gel to wash our hands. Extra pillows were not available when requested. Despite raising issues with the concierge or making requests to him we never saw items actioned. The room phone did not work, and we later learned none of the Sanctuary phones were functioning. This meant every request required tracking someone down in person. The towel station on the grounds was never open, so towel exchanges were random. The safe reset itself to the default code mid-week, and we could not determine whether anyone accessed it. The best part of the room was its location. Being beside the Sanctuary pool made it quick and easy to enjoy the outdoor areas. Overall score: 3 out of 5 Service and Staff Service across the resort varied widely. The main Grand Memories buffet staff were consistently the friendliest and most engaged employees we encountered. Their positive attitude improved the experience greatly. In Sanctuary, service depended on location. The Sanctuary restaurant, bar, and outdoor seating areas offered good, reliable service at a solid four out of five. The concierge service, however, was ineffective. Sanctuary alternates concierges daily, which meant no continuity. One concierge was responsive but accomplished nothing, while the other was often absent. With room phones not working, finding a concierge became a frustrating daily challenge. Alittle like playing where’s waldo The Sanctuary front desk was indifferent, and issues such as lack of hot water or missing supplies received little attention. Housekeeping was tidy but inconsistent with restocking. The towel exchange booth was never open. A concerning incident involved another guest whose wife had not left their room for most of their trip due to an illness. He repeatedly asked Sanctuary staff for help arranging medical support, but the response was dismissive. We witnessed this while standing behind him in line. The man was in tears and asking for help and the front desk staff said he’d have to wait until the concierge because they don’t do anything. We eventually went to the main lobby to speak with a manager ourselves, urging him to take the situation seriously. The guest later told my wife she made it home safely, but the resort’s initial lack of urgency and care was troubling. Overall score: 2 out of 5 Entertainment Entertainment was relaxed and easy to engage with. Daily activity boards made it simple to see what was happening. We participated in activities such as drinks served in coconuts, poolside games, and pig roast events. The main Grand Memories area generally offered more engaging versions of the activities. For example, during pig roastings, you could watch the carving process. Sanctuary offered the same food but without the event itself. Music around the Sanctuary pool was often an odd mix of country and unrelated genres that did not fit the setting, but it did not stop us from enjoying the area. Overall score: 3.5 out of 5 Overall Our stay at the Sanctuary section of Grand Memories Varadero had enjoyable moments but also several service and maintenance issues. The quiet atmosphere, friendly buffet and bar staff, and proximity to the beach were highlights. When the ocean was calm, swimming was excellent, and even windy days were relaxing. Food was generally good, although breakfast service at Sanctuary was slow. The biggest drawbacks were the lack of effective service, inconsistent room restocking, lack of hot water, and communication issues and non-functioning room phones. Despite these issues, we relaxed, enjoyed the ocean when we could, and appreciated the quieter environment. Overall score: 3 out of 5 WestJet Travel Experience Our experience with WestJet before, during, and after this trip was truly terrible and caused us to lose two full days of vacation along with an extra day of leave from work. On departure day, we spent hours on the tarmac and then hours waiting for luggage. The lack of real communication after cancelling the flight created tons of anxiety. There was no one who seemed to be in charge of finding a solution, no one at the desk and we only out of luck found A random staff member casually told a small group of passengers to return at eight the next morning, but WestJet had no record of this when we called later that night. Their only official rebooking option was a flight two days later. We were staying positive, because westjet’s system issued us a hotel voucher fairly quickly. However; The first hotel WestJet sent us to was full. It took nearly two hours finally get to a room after they turned us away, and then be moved to a second hotel. Before that, we stood outside in the cold for twenty to thirty minutes waiting for a shuttle along with most of the plane. Flight information never appeared in the WestJet, Sunwing, or Tripcentral apps. Airport screens and staff statements did not match. We decided to just wing it and went to checkin and were issued boarding passes for a flight that was supposed to leave at 11am even though no one prior seemed to know that this was our flight. After boarding late in the afternoon around 4pm, we sat on the tarmac for hours due to radio and paperwork issues, arriving at the resort after midnight, two days late. The return flight was just as bad. There is no seating in the Varadero airport, so we sat on the floor for hours. WestJet would not check us in early despite our VIP lounge access. Another long tarmac delay pushed a one a.m. arrival into four a.m. Communication was contradictory or nonexistent throughout, and despite the lost days and additional expenses, we received nothing from WestJet. Overall, it was a truly terrible travel experience that added unnecessary stress to both ends of the trip. Also, Westjet provided no compensation.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Holguin: Quality of Service needs improvement
The resort, beach, pool, grounds, were beautiful but the efficiency and quality of service must be improved significantly specially in the main buffet area. This place was not at all organized and people stood in line for hours to get food. Many empty trays were not refilled in a timely manner. The layout of the main dining area has to be redone to ensure the flow of traffic is optimized. We were lucky that we booked the premium class and so we had more options for food. The snack bar didn't have condiments like ketchup or mustard. The pizza place next to the snack bar was not in service most of the time. The wifi worked only for 2 days out of our 7 night stay which is unacceptable. Another example is at the bites restaurant for breakfast, they had just 1 burner operating for the egg station creating unnecessary lineups. There were several impractical issues that made our stay unpleasant. Many times toilet paper would run out in the public washrooms and would not be replaced. There were roaches in the Japanese and Italian restaurants as well as in our rooms. On the positive side our butler, Carlos was an amazing individual and did whatever he could do satisfy our needs. We did enjoy the international/Mediterranean restaurant. We did get a free lobster dinner on Christmas Eve which was nice. Most of the staff were pleasant. We feel sorry for the people but it appears that the management is creating inefficiencies that are going to drive tourists away from this resort. We won't be going back to this resort.

Grand Memories Holguin: Declining Quality
Keep in mind that this hotel is 2h bus drive from the airport in the very secluded part of Cuba, there is one hotel close to it but it is shut down, so if privacy is critical for you this is the place for you. However, having a small buffet for 300+ tourists with lineups to go into the buffet is not acceptable, multiple roaches (5+ roaches) roaming around the Japanese restaurant made us leave this a-lacarte booking before the cooking begun. Great weather and lack of mosquitos somehow made up for these deficiencies, although after 15 visits to Cuba things are getting worse each time, which is unfortunate.

The people of Cuba make up for the lack of luxury that one might expect. Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: A nice trip, but wouldn't return
I had a great time despite some of the issues. My room was on the ground floor, the patio door had no lock and was impossible to open without putting all of my weight into it. The room was damp, and there were multiple signs of mold in different locations. My room was cleaned twice and I ran out of toilet paper. The mini fridge was not restocked despite it being advertised as a perk of upgrading. The shower flooded the entire bathroom with each use and there was a drip above the toilet that made the toilet wet at all times. I spoke to other guests and they complained about the same sort of issues and were upgraded to much nicer rooms. I didn't complain (probably should have said something), I don't think you should have to in order to get what you pay for. The food was okay and there were always plenty of options. The facilities were a bit rundown in the sanctuary area. The small pool was empty, the fountains/waterfalls were all off and not functioning and the lighting was not always working. The staff were great at the sanctuary pool/snack bar, outside of that I had a mostly neutral experience. The grounds were beautiful and well kept, it was sad to see a lot of garbage around in some places, not the fault of the staff but rather a reflection of the guests. Overall I got what I went for, which was sun and some quiet time but I don't think I would return to this resort in particular for the price I paid.

Grand Memories Varadero: Avoid
There was no toilet paper, bottled water or clean towels on arrival. It was a challenge to get toilet paper or clean towels most of my stay. I never got any beach towels even after requesting them. I had been to this resort once before and the food was okay that time. The quality of the food has gone done considerably. My toilet seat was hanging by a thread. My room was not made up when I arrived. The nightly shows were considerably worse than my previous visit. Management seemed to not care at all about guests. I fell on my third day there on a water covered floor. Had to get 11 stitches on my head. No one at the resort seemed to care. STAY AWAY.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Good resort and beautiful beach!
Memories Flamenco is a wonderful resort and was the destination of our first family trip to Cuba. We truly love Cuba and its people, and we already planning to return. It is important to have realistic expectations. This is Cuba, and many people are facing challenges. You should visit the REAL CUBA, the nearest town then, you will able to see the other side of the moon. While the hotel does require some renovations and upgrades, the beach is absolutely beautiful and unique, which is the main reason many travelers choose Cuba. The entertainment team works very hard to make guests feel welcome and to create memories and smile. Staff members across all departments-gardeners, cleaners, reception, management, bar and service staff-do their best to provide quality service. The food is decent, and there is always enough to eat. once again, travelers should keep in mind the realities of the destination. If someone has very high expectations, they may wish to consider a higher priced alternative elsewhere. I love Cuba and appreciate the warmth and dedication of its people!

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Holguin: Repeater and SO Disappointed!!
My wife and I stayed at this resort in October 2024 and were so impressed that we decided to return for a second visit. Unfortunately, our recent experience was very different and did not reflect the quality of our previous stay. This resort is not operating at the same standard as it did last year. Whether due to changes in management, current conditions in Cuba, or resource limitations, the overall experience was disappointing. I have stayed at 2.5-star resorts more than 20 times over the past 25 years and have never previously felt compelled to complain about food quality. However, during this stay, the food was extremely difficult to tolerate. There was no fresh fruit available other than cucumbers, no fresh vegetables, and most food was either canned or heavily prepared with mayonnaise. Housekeeping was also an issue. On the third day of our stay, the chambermaid removed our waste paper bin and did not replace an empty roll of toilet paper. I went to the front desk and politely requested a replacement. I was informed that housekeeping would be contacted; however, it took approximately a day and a half for toilet paper to be delivered. During this time, we were forced to use serviettes taken from the kitchen. I do not take writing negative reviews lightly, and I have never spoken poorly of any vacation I have had in Cuba. That said, this experience was both disappointing and unacceptable compared to our previous visit.

We travelled as a couple along with another couple of friends. It was a long way from airport to the hotel, about 2 hours. The hotel is nice with very well maintained grounds. The room was very clean and lovely decorated every day. The view from our balcony was amazing. The beach was clean, but rocky in the water. There are many pools enough for everyone. All the employees were friendly and helpful. Everyday, the manager was supervising the main buffet, and greeting the tourists. There wasn't much variety of food, almost no vegetables and fruits, but we didn't starve. Not much variety of drinks as well, and the coffee had a weird taste like burnt. The staff did their best with what they had. Junior, the most friendly barman in the resort, made us Canchanchara, a traditional Cuban drink and told us the story around it. As Premium class, we got an Exclusive dinner with music show and nice food. Entertainment was pretty light especially at night time, I believe because the resort was not so busy. Overall, for the money we paid it was great. Our butlers, Yosbel and Raciel, made our vacation wonderful. Our designated room had a mouldy smell, but Yosbel managed to give us a better room. Communication with them was flawless via WhatsApp.They made all our a la carte restaurant reservation, send us daily activities schedule, checked on us every day to see if everything is ok. We had a big surprise for my husband birthday; we requested to dine at the Japanese restaurant for the second time because we loved it first time, and Raciel made this possible. There, he decorated the spot with balloons and "Happy birthday" banner, brought us a cake with candle and a bottle of sparkling wine. Thank you guys, you are the best!

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: The Sanctuary was a True Gem
2nd time at this Vardero resort (would return for a 3rd). Fantastic dollar value including the great weather! Sanctuary provided all the needs - beach, pool, service ,foods (at the Ave del Paradiso), drinks (from the coffee to the wine) ,daily events (enjoyed the Air-Brushed tattoos and dancing with live bands at the bar). We Originally had preplanned on the limits or shortages in CUBA being of concern - we were not disappointed. All the smiles and joy provided by the Sanctuary staff more then enough made it all enjoyable. Our Hotel building manager Noel (great heart and even provided us some help when the room issued beach towel was not to be found) and the daily room service (which was a lot of hard work that should really be appreciated).. Staying on the ground floor level was quite the bonus (less stairs the better). Sanctuary adult beach had variety of daily activities and the personal on the beach ( lifeguards security and servers). Carlos , Oscar (the wiseman of the beach), Eduardo , Naomi (entertainment) Nataly at both pool and the beach bar) and of course Yuni and Roxy Hop on Off bus to Varadero was fun and a must do. Found a great restaurant in town too ("Terraza") Rating a 8.5 out of 10 :>)

So overall we are very pleased with our stay and would recommend to visit. The only thing negative there is hardly any entertainment. Was tired of disco music every night . We love true Cuban music . Makes the vacation more magical and unique. Also would like to see more activities around the pool.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Holguin: Sanctuary at Grand Memories Holguin
We had a great time in Holguin. As usual in Cuba there are items that are not available but staff always aim to please and make things great. Overall, no complaints once we got to the resort. Our flight from Toronto was delayed for over 7 hours which made us miss the whole first day but the rest of the trip was good. Upgrading to premium was a bonus to ensure that we had access to a butler (Marlon and Yannel). We spend most of our time at the Sanctuary Pool which was never over-crowded. The bus ride to the resort is close to 2 hours but is pretty scenic at least. Overall, I enjoyed my time at the resort.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Best Beach Resort!
Memories Caribe again was fun to spend time at and the beach just the best. Staff was able to accommodate my requests for my stay. Music at the piano bar was enjoyable. I do miss the Karaoke nights, please bring them back, they were fun and drew large audiences for the big stage area!

Grand Memories Santa Maria: Not Great
We upgraded to an oceanview room, it was very run down. Shower barely worked, door frame kept falling apart and a lot of bugs (ants and cockroaches). We booked this hotel because it was for families because we brought our 11 year old. There was no activities for kids his age. Normally there is soccer of volleyball but there was nothing. We have traveled to Cuba many times and know what to expect but this resort fell very short. We went to memories holguin last year, it was much better for families. This resort seems to really cater to adults. Also there is no access to the other memories, I believe it is closed. Beautiful beach.

Memories Trinidad Del Mar: Memories is our resort of choice to return to; this being our sixth consecutive visit
We are a multi visit returner to this hotel. The property buildings and rooms are maintained on and on going basis year to year. Meaning they do not let it run down and then have a major renovation. The staff year to year is consistent in customer care. they are all welcoming and ready to take care of us and our needs. We year after year are welcomed back and to us its like returning to a close relatives home for a family reunion. We intend all things being equal to go back again next November. We also note there are a number of other Canadians we have come to know who also vacation in the same time period as us We keep in touch with many of them during the year and coordinate our vactation's with, a year in advance. yes there are minor issues at any hotel one visit's but compared to the great sea, beach, sun and hotel amenities they are minor and the staff do there best to resolve in as soon and possible. And yes we do recommend this hotel to our friends and are already planning tor nest year.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Our Favourite
We recently visited Memories Caribe in Cayo Coco for our twelfth time. Obviously, we really enjoy this resort. This time we stayed in a Premium Al Fresco room. Our flight arrived late in the evening, check-in was fast and since we are very familiar with the resort we were able to find out building very easily. Everything in our room was in working order. Later in the week we had an issue with the TV and it was repaired quickly. The l la carte restaurants reservations were ready for us upon arrival. We also had returning guest dinner, Premium dinner, and Ambassador dinner so did not eat dinner in the buffet. The food in every a la carte restaurant was very good. We also had breakfast in the Premium restaurant which was nice. We absolutely love the beach at this resort and that is the main reason we return. Plenty of chairs under the shade and the chair guys are always speedy and helpful in getting you set up. Alain, Fidel and Yenelis at the beach bar are fabulous with their service. The snack bar and BBQ at the Premium area are very good and so convenient. The Premium beach area is fairly quiet and relaxing. We went to the Bites snackbar a couple of times and the food and drinks were great. The piano bar had music every night, but we found it too loud and crowded for our taste. Overall, we had a very nice vacation and will definitely return.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Memories Caribe beach hotel
Recently spent a week at this resort. We enjoyed our stay We felt the staff were very nice. Beach was spectacular. Some of the entertainment was very enjoyable. The al a carte restsurants were good. Had some delicious meals. Buffet also had a good variety. My only concern was the cleaning of the rooms and lack of towels could be improved.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Great resort
The resort was clean, and well maintained grounds. Everything was close by from our room, so short walk to beach, pool and restaurants. Short drive from airport to resort so made it best to maximize time at resort. Beach area and amenities were great. Definitely on our list to return very soon. Great staff everywhere we went. They were always friendly, caring and helpful. Special mention and shout out to the resort’s public relation rep. C. Lesly Guerra who really made our trip special and made us feel very welcomed.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Grand memories Sanctuary is good value for money
Even though rooms could use updating, being prepared not to have high expectations, we had a great time. Our house butlers Carlos and Noel were very helpful and attentive. Food at the a la carte restaurants were great. The beach and water were absolutely gorgeous.

Memories Jibacoa: Great resort!
Great service, very clean. Fantastic pool and beach! Best resort in Cuba so far for good off shore snorkeling. Food at the buffet is again pretty average but a la cartes are good! Highly recommend paying the extra for premium.
